Is it weird to make pasta and vegetarian meatballs for first time dinner guests?

We had a couple over for dinner for the first time tonight and I asked them beforehand what they do not eat and they said Pork and Veal. So I decided to make pasta and vegetarian meatballs because I personally am not a huge fan of meat and my husband eats anything. Now, would you think that people you go to dinner to, and they surprise you with pasta and vegetarian meatballs (versus real meatballs) are weird people? Is it weird to make pasta and vegetarian meatballs for first time dinner guests?
No, but I was in the military. I like a simple meal when I go to someones house. I don't want a meal where they are stressed out and crazy by the time the guest get there. I don't care if your house is dust free, I just want to visit and have a good time. I would be just as happy with hamburgers and hot dogs then with steak or chicken. I want things simple, it is about spending time with each other, not so much about making a fuss. I like to ask people about their diet needs because so many people have issues. Some are diabetic, some people can't have seeds or nuts, I just seem to have friends with a lot of drama, so I like it to be simple. I don't know if I would have noticed a difference between vegetarian meatballs and regular meatballs. I think most people are just glad they got invited out, and don't really care what they eat. You can make yourself crazy trying to please everyone.
Doesn't sound weird to me at all!! Plenty of people are either vegetarian or close to it - far more than 20 years ago for certain!! Also, properly prepared vegetarian dishes can be REALLY yummy, and a delightful surprise to almost anybody who isn't from say, Texas.I would say go for it - they'll probably think you a good cook and an interesting person, and not at all strange. Is it weird to make pasta and vegetarian meatballs for first time dinner guests?
No...I'd really appreciate it (because I'm a vegetarian =D). I'm pretty sure they would be OK with it - if you cut any sort of meat out of your diet, you occasionally get stuck in places where that's all they serve, or you have limited options. I bet if you don't tell them they're vegetarian meatballs right away, they won't mind. If they mention it, like, "These are interesting...where did you get them?" then let them know they're actually vegetarian. I think it would be more awkward if they asked you, "So, what kind of meat are these made out of? Are the noodles whole grain? Is the sauce made with real tomatoes?"
Unless they're vegetarian then there is really no point to it. However, if they are then you are making a very very smart move. It does not make you weird. It's perfectly alright and I assume they will enjoy it. I mean, firstly you are making dinner for them in the first place so they better enjoy it. Secondly, even if they didn't I'm sure they wouldn't tell you so you'd never know.Is it weird to make pasta and vegetarian meatballs for first time dinner guests?
I am always up for trying new kinds of food and as I am trying to eat less meat for various reasons I would find it wonderfully surprising, and I do mean that in a good way. I do not think they will assume that you are weird, vegetarian meals are hardly grounds for such a judgment.
no. if i'm a guest i'm not going to question or fuss about what the host is/isn't serving serving...unless there's food allergies involved--but i think that's the sort of thing people with food allergies let other people know before someone else cooks food for them.
Not Really. It shows that you have experience, and that you like the environment. if they are proper guests, then they'll understand that.
its not wierd, but i would ask them if they liked that first, but that pleases everybody, no pork no veal and no meat!

wanna awnser mine?

i do eat meat and prefer vegetarian meat balls to real meat!! don't even tell them its not real meat, they are just more tender than actual ground beef! i even use the fake ground beef instead of real ground beef for tacos.
wow that actually sounds like a really GOOD dinner lol im getting hungry! everyone loves pasta and they will definetly love it maybe even add some nice garlic bread for a little more UMPH u know?
Hell No Im a hippie so i would love to be one of ur dinner guests. But no its good because its healthy. And if you want to try something even better have vegetarian spinach lasagna.
Not at all, especially if it tastes good. I wouldn't think anyone wold find that offensive, even if it was a little different from their normal choices.
not really, I think maybe it would be better if you'd make chicken, it's safe... they will think you tried to please them and that you are nice but maybe too thoughtful.
I would not think so, especially because it would seem that you went out of your way to make them something that works with their needs.
My family is huge meat eaters, so it would be weird for them. And me as well.

I would try something else. Maybe like, a meat sauce?
Not weird but extremely inconsiderate.
I don't think it's weird. I think it's nice that you are trying to accommodate their preferences.
no, i'd think it was great because i don't eat meat, either. it's not weird.
No, because if it's what they eat, then you make it, it wouldn't be weird. It's normal!
I'd make real meatballs, but I doubt they will care if they are vegetarian.
Not at all. Don't worry about it.
no. you tried your best
