Steps to going on a full time vegetarian diet?

I'm currently trying to cut down on meat, and hopefull in due time, become a vegan.

But it's difficult, I keep forgetting not to eat meat. ( Right, it's not an excuse, I know. Sorry! )

And there aren't many food outlets, restuarants etc selling vegetarian food.

It's diffucult to make them at home too. I tried, but I can't possibly eat salads and cereal all day long.. can I?

Well, this is a desprate plea for help!

Any idea? Anyone, anything?Steps to going on a full time vegetarian diet?
Salads and cereal are ll you can come up with for a vegetarian diet? In the height of the fresh fruit and vegetable season?

I can give you a ton of ideas, and I'm not even a full time veg. I'm just a cheap college student who doesn't like shelling out meat prices.

As far as food outlets and restaurants, I'd need to know your town, but for starters you can check out this website for some pretty good places.

Cut out one meat at a time, then start on all the vegetables you like and fruits. And when you get bored with them add something ever week that you don't like. After a while you require the taste and you wonder why you never liked that food.

You have to cook for you're self, all that old processed food is really un healthy. Remember you are special so cook your food.

Are you still going to eat eggs and cheese and drink milk? you need to cut out most of your cokes if you really want to be healthy.

Well I won't say it's easy. I would start buy cutting down your meat consumption. I went from eating it every day down to about once a week for several months before taking the leap and just doing away with it. Then go to peta.org and sign up for their vegetarian starter kit and they will send you a brochure with some encouragement and recipes. Also check out WHFoods.org they have a lot of good information and recipes as well. Hit a farmers market, check out the meat substitutes at the grocery store or co-op, or just start making your normal meals without the meat. Order a cheese pizza without the pepperoni, order an Alfredo pizza without the chicken, order a Cesar salad hold the chicken, order a breakfast meal and ask for hash browns instead of bacon. Where do you live? The odds are there are some restaurants locally that are also catering to vegetarians you just don't know about it because you didn't need to know about it. Even bakers square lets you substitute a boca burger on their burgers these days. Just get your head in the game and if this is what you want to do focus and make it a real goal and work twords it. You can do it, I know you can.
As other people have said, you could try gradually dropping different meats. Also bear in mind that you can't go wrong just cooking a load of veg together: either stir fry or just fry some onions gradually add other veg depending on cooking time and some stock.

Cranks do a fantastic recipe book or two.

Just bear in mind things like nuts (cashews make a lovely addition to curry) and pulses etc for fats and protein as you do need them in your diet.

I speak as a meat eater who has a surplus from the allotment and enjoys tricking the determinedly carnivorous husband into eating non-meat meals.Steps to going on a full time vegetarian diet?

Hi.. I am 100% vegan.. you have to think on it seriously..

there are many reason why you should leave or cut down it.

First it is bad for health .. you can ask to you doctor.

Second think why becase of us someone kills beings. They are also living being ,therse is soul in them, which we have.

Think about it...
get yourself a nice vegetarian cookery book or check the site below
There are plenty of recipie books, web sites %26amp; groups to help.

but I found just being frugal/lazy and not buying meat, meant that I had to eat just what was in the cupboard, stir-fry, pasta etc. I just don't visit butchers or that part of the supermarket.

Also being part of a food co-op buying pasta, rice, soya milk etc in bulk means I have a good store cuboard that there is useally something in.
Go to your genetic engineering clinic, have four more stomachs installed, get herbivore teeth (rather than our omnivore teeth) plugged into your gums, then go stand in a field and become a ruminant. (mooooo!)
Think of it as an new experience not a chore. Get a great vegetarian cookbook. Try "Vegetarian Planet". It has great recipes. Then just start sampling things. Most grocery stores carry tofu and other vegetarian items like boca burgers and morningstar products (although they are processed). Some things you're going to like and some not so much, but the important thing is that you get protein in your diet, not all grains and veggies. Remember to look closely at ingredients, because things like jello and marshmallow actually have animal source ingredients. Also, always look at the ingredients in soups. I've found that even the soups that say vegetable use chicken broth. The same goes for instant stuffings (Stove Top) and flavored rice, which also contain chicken broth sometimes. After you've found the things you really like, you'll get used to it and it will become second nature.
