Is it healthy to pass (healthy) stools three to five times a day? I have great digestion and work out daily.?

I pass twice in the morning, as soon as I get up, within five minutes of each other. Then once two to three hours later, after breakfast. Then once or twice more during the day. I eat healthily, work out daily, am a vegetarian, eat lots of fruits, vegetables, plain yogurt and whole grains, and meditate.

The stools themselves are not diahorreal, just normal and well-formed. Any serious, medically-grounded replies would be appreciated. Thanks! Is it healthy to pass (healthy) stools three to five times a day? I have great digestion and work out daily.?
Hey

It's totally expected for a vegg person like yourself. As long as you don't see mucus, blood or any changes in the color of your regular stools, you're fine.

It's mostly due to the fact that you're veggetarian. Lot's of fiber and water (you must be drinking during your workout), facilitates digestion and the production of gas from bacterias in your colon (gut), so your stool pass through it quickly and are easily.

I am veggetarian myself and have the same situation, which by the way is pretty heatlhy.
This not a medically grounded reply. Nutritional yes, Since you stated that you are vegetarian, that would be considered normal. I find that there is a need to bind these fruits and veggies with either cheese , eggs, and fish in order to function on more regular elimination of perhaps once a day. There may be other choices possible, the one fruit that will help is blueberries, on a daily basis. If you direct this question to other vegetarians, you may get a good answer form them.Is it healthy to pass (healthy) stools three to five times a day? I have great digestion and work out daily.?
LOL -- my stepson used to be a vegetarian, and he mentioned the same "issue" once.......we all just reckoned it was because he was full of more (t i h s) than anybody else. He is no longer a vegetarian, and he hasn't mentioned the issue other than that once -- whether that is because it doesn't happen anymore or he it hasn't come up on our discussions, I don't know.

I guess you ARE getting a lot more roughage in your diet, so it might stand to reason.
You are eating fiber and seem to be pretty normal in more ways than one. Yes I know of people who go once a day once every other day but alot of it has to do with what they consume. I myself have three movements a day and I find nothing abnormal about it. Have been this way since I was a kid.Is it healthy to pass (healthy) stools three to five times a day? I have great digestion and work out daily.?
I'd of thought that was too much. Once a day is plenty. Any more is v-unusual.
Pooping is good. Voids the body of any poisons,
Elimination of the unwanted products from the body is always good. Try more fibre in your diet and drink more water.
you just seem to have a fast, healthy metabolism. i wouldn't worry about. i was told you should have a bowel movement very soon after you eat. so if you are eating healthy- more than three times a day (small portions) it makes sense that you have that many bowel movements.

I'm a runner (love it!) but I'm also a vegetarian. Will lack of protein seriously affect my times?

I've been running for three years on my high school's track and XC teams. I LOVE IT and I just finished my junior year. I'm pretty slow but I don't care because I really compare myself to others that much. The problem is I get tired pretty easily which should happen when I train so much and I know that I work hard. I wonder if I'm not building enough muscle.

I don't eat any meat or fish and don't eat tofu. I don't often eat eggs so I can guess that there's probably no protein in my diet. Would eggs and tofu be the best option? Or protein shakes? Are there any other vegetarians out there?

thankies =]I'm a runner (love it!) but I'm also a vegetarian. Will lack of protein seriously affect my times?
a great way to get protine into your system is protine powder. it can be put in smoothies, milkshakes, and plain mixed with water. it is good to use before and after a workout to build you muscles. on a seperate note, sporps beans and propel keeps you energized during a run.

What are your favorite vegetarian/vegan brands?

I love Morning Star sausage which is 100% vegetarian, but I need some more options.

;-) Thanks ahead of time! What are your favorite vegetarian/vegan brands?
Trader Joes has some delicious vegetarian option. Their masala burgers and soy chorizo are absolutely delicious. If you have a trader joes near you, I would definitely check it out. It's good thing too because a lot of their foods are really inexpensive yet tasty and good for you.

Ultimately, I'd really suggest trying to make your own vegetarian foods, and not depend so much on processed veggie burgers, sausage, and "chicken" tenders. Try making your own black bean burgers, or tofu sausage, or veggie burgers. :)What are your favorite vegetarian/vegan brands?
Amy's.

the indian food ones taste great to me.

there aren't any indian food places where i live so i really enjoy them.

i like them so much that i am learning to cook indian dishes myself.

they are generally easy and quick to make. What are your favorite vegetarian/vegan brands?
Raw nature makes the best vegetarian/vegan food 'brands'. Natural, whole foods all the way.
I find the Quorn brand to be good in taste and variety of selection.

I want to become a vegetarian again?

I have already been vegetarian twice before, both times failing in a matter of weeks. I really want to try again but many people don't take me seriously. Everyone jokes about it. I want to become a vegetarian but I don't want to get embarrassed

(both times I went cold turkey...no pun intended)I want to become a vegetarian again?
If you're not sure you will be able to stick with it just stop eating meat without telling anyone about it. Once you're more comfortable knowing it is something you can stick with you can let your friends and family know.
So what's the question? If you want to be a vegetarian, all you have to do is stop eating meat (but make sure you get the protein from a substitute or something). It's no big deal, lots of celebrities do it to keep in shape. If you really want to do it, you won't care what people think. I, personally, think it's a great way to escape heart disease and what knot...though I wouldn't do it myself...when Christmas/Thanksgiving came around I'd just be like "**** it" (lol).I want to become a vegetarian again?
You should really gradually switch. I quickly switched but then again, i didn't eat much meat in the first place. First do three days of no meat, then four days, then five, etc. Each week adding one more day of no meat.
Don't worry about what others say. Just do what you can do. If you want to be a vegetarian again, then by all means, go for it! :)I want to become a vegetarian again?

  • Ive been a vegetarian for 5 days now, and i need help?

Ive been doing pretty good and eating absolutely no meat but im having a problem only because now im afraid im eating too much carbs or whatever. I exercise alot i do pilates a few times a week and run at least 2-4 miles also on the treadmill. I became a vegetarian cuz I know eating meat isnt healthy and i dont want to waste my time by not eating meat and seeing no results. HELP!!!Ive been a vegetarian for 5 days now, and i need help?
First of all, Yaay for you!

I became a lacto-vegetarian in January. :) And I straight away came here for tips, here's the link for my question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a> I received brilliant answers that covered basically everything!

I've been having mainly the same meals, just with supplements, and LOTS of cheese. Yum.

Good luck, and I sincerely hope it all works out for you! :)
When you eliminating meat, you're eating other stuff. So it depends on what it is.

Also, the body has to adjust - takes a few weeks.

No such thing as too much carbs if your eating naturally. Nature meant for us to eat mostly fruit. Fruit is 90% carbs, 5% protein, 5% fat.

    - You can't pass out from lack of protein. There are marathon runners who only eat fruit and veggies: See Michael %26amp; Victoria Arnstein on youtube.Ive been a vegetarian for 5 days now, and i need help?
i gave up meat for lent this year and what you need is protein!!!! eggs, nuts, and beans have a lot of protein so you should eat a lot of those. my friend was a vegetarian and she wasnt eating protein and she had to go to the hospital because she passed out twice from lack of protein. good luck!!!!
5 days is not going to do anything really, ive been a vegetarian for almost two years and it took me a few months before i started seeing any real results but it is definitly a lot more healthy than eating meat. (ewwww)Ive been a vegetarian for 5 days now, and i need help?
i've been a vegetarian for 18 years and really eating meat is a bit unhealthy but not enough to make you not active if you do treadmill and stuff. but really i think you became a vegetarian for the wrong reasons.
just make sure you are getting enough fiber and iron in your diet to balance out what you are now not getting. also going to a dietitian can help you to find out what foods would be best for you!
maybe you would feel more secure if you started a detox diet? just to help the transition
Help with what? Google the vegetarian food pyramid. Make sure your carbs come from whole grains and veggies.
Check out the site www.vrg to plan out your vegetarian diet properly

What do you think of part time vegetarians?

My cousin is a vegetarian during the week, but eats meat when visiting family on weekends.

I'm a (full time) vegetrian myself. :-)What do you think of part time vegetarians?
I've met people like this, they want the credit for being vegetarian but won't make the sacrifice of actually quitting meat. They probably also find it's a way of alleviating some of the guilt they feel about eating meat and animal welfare issues.

As annoying as people like this are, I do think about what would happen if all the omnis in the world only ate meat on weekends; think how many animals would be saved. So in that respect, it's got to be a positive step. It's just irritating to those of us who have the commitment to be veg all the time.
Any reduction in meat consumption is good. But your cousin is still an omnivore, this apparent "part time vegetarian" term sounds alot like the made up "flexitarian" that keeps being used. If he/she reduces their meat intake that great for their health, the animals and the environment, but don't go about calling your self vegetarian or "part time vegetarian" because there's no such thing. What do you think of part time vegetarians?
I think they are an omnivore who eats vegetarian meals in the week and meat at the weekends.

But on saying that i think it is good your cousin eats more vegetarian meals than meat ones, at least they are doing something to help the environment and their health! :)

Kim you are a vegetarian but your cousin isn't.
I've known "vegetarians" that "only" eat bacon. Life is full of choices.

I hate to see such issues in black and white anyway. Eating farm raised shrimp and predator fish(tuna, swordfish) is bad in my opinion, but eating wild caught shrimp or fish low on the food chain(scrod) is not. Eating more than a pound of meat a day is immoral to me, but living without animal based food at all is pretty dismal. What do you think of part time vegetarians?
There is such a sense of entitlement on both sides of this! It's idiotic that someone would call themselves a part-time vegetarian, and it's equally idiotic that someone would care what they call themselves.

I grew up in a boring world where people were more concerned about what was for dinner than what they should or should not call themselves while they ate it.
    I think it's stupid.

If you eat meat, you are NOT a Vegetarian. You cannot label yourself a Vegetarian and then go and have a hamburger just because your visiting your uncle.

And while we're on the subject, what's with Pescitarians? (Keep in mind, I'm talking about the ones that do it for animal rights.) Fish are animals.
who cares what others eat? Why do we even have names for the diets we eat. Just eat what makes you and your body happy. Also, be happy that you live some place where you have the CHOICE and LUXURY to eat what you want and not just what is available.

Do you think starving people worry about whether they are eating vegetarian on the weekends?
Um, honestly, i think that to be a vegetarian, you can't be a meat-eater at all. I'm a vegetarian. If you eat meat, then you are no longer a vegetarian. It's as simple as that. Sorry.
It's OK...I started out vegan but now will eat shrimp or fish to be sociable...we have to live in this world...extremism is not good and I feel better eating some fish...your cousin has the ideal diet actually, as long as he/she is not eating steak or pork chops but just eating fish...
Does it matter? I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I'm not a vegetarian, but love my sister's vegetarian cooking. So I guess I'm a vegetarian only when I eat meals with her.
:-) I think that they should be full-time vegetarians, but it's good that they're helping the vegetarian cause at all. They're kinda like peskitarians. I'm a full-time vegetarian and part-time vegan. :-)
    Your cousin isn't vegetarian.

"part time vegetarians"..... there is no such thing, if you are a vegetarian, you eat no meat products, that includes fish.
LOL..bottom line is it makes her happy %26amp; her family comfortable. Many people start towards Veggie/Vegan just this way %26amp; slowly the animal flesh loses it's appeal.

Even partime she is improving her health considerably!
You're either a vegetarian or you're not. If you eat meat, you're not. Period.
Then he is not a vegetarian and he should not call himself one.
    She's not a vegetarian.
Do what you like. You don't need to explain yourself to anyone.

    http://www.recipetreasurebox.com
I think that person is an omnivore. Period.
Who cares, why does everyone need a label?
    its a good start!

What are the first steps to going Vegan, or "strict vegetarian"?

I've been a lacto-ovo Vegetarian for a year and a half, and I feel like it's time to make the switch. What are the first steps to going Vegan, or "strict vegetarian"?
I was lacto-ovo until I decided to switch to vegan about 2 months ago.

Here's some advice (aka..what I did? hope it helps):

FIRST--drop the products with the most abundant sources of animal by-products first, such as: milk, yogurt, eggs, cheese, and desserts/candies with eggs and milk. As alternatives, if you find it difficult, there is soy milk, rice milk, almond milk, vegan cheese in most national grocery chains, rice chocolate, fake eggs, etc.

SECOND---While I immediately cut the previous from my diet the first day I said I was switching to vegan, I still had no idea what "secondary" foods weren't vegan...and there are a lot of snacks, chips, desserts, candies, etc that are not. What I did, to slowly get used to it, was just go around reading nutrition labels whenever I bought food, or if I had non-vegan food that I still needed to finish. I bought a lot of things out of the snack machines (academic buildings....starving student) and had assumed they were vegan and then discovered they were not, but I still ate them initially.

Doing this helped me get used to 1. reading labels on EVERYTHING and 2. moderately switching over and getting used to not being able to eat what I did as a vegetarian. It also helped me to remember what foods contain animal by-products, so in the future if I were to wonder if a certain food was vegan, I wouldn't have to ask who is cooking it because I'd already have a good idea from past experience and reading so many labels.

I don't know how you feel about alternatives to milk...it may be a little difficult if you aren't used to different tastes. I haven't had regular milk in years, simply because I didn't like the taste so I went to soy, so that made the switch to vegan a little easier for me.

Definitely don't forget to take vitamins either...vit. B complex is pretty vital, as is a multi...maybe even some vitamin cWhat are the first steps to going Vegan, or "strict vegetarian"?
First step is to drop the dairy products and eggs, and make sure you are eating vitamin B12 somewhere in your diet every day, either through fortified food or a supplement. Here's a guide from Vegan Outreach http://www.veganoutreach.org/guide/ and from the vegetarian resource group http://www.vrg.org/nutshell/vegan.htmWhat are the first steps to going Vegan, or "strict vegetarian"?
the whole lacto -ovo thing kinda worked for me but it was not what i expected
Step one: quit eating animal products.

Why do so many people think that they're a vegetarian if they eat fish?

Can someone please help me? What's the difference between eating something that lives on land or something that lives in the water?

Meat is the flesh of an animal. When you eat fish, aren't you eating their flesh?

It drives me crazy! Even though I'm vegan, I get people telling me all the time, "Oh, you're allowed to eat fish though!"

When are people going to learn that eating flesh isn't vegetarian, no matter which animal it comes from? And how do I deal with these people who are so convinced that I should be eating fish?|||I think people honestly wake up and say "YOU KNOW, BEING A VEGETARIAN WOULD MAKE ME REALLY DIFFERENT, AND COOL!" It's not a trend, or style, it is a lifestlye choice.

People who eat fish and call themselves vegetarians bugs the hell out of me, beyond explanation.

What I love? Is when people tell me to "chill out about it." How the heck can I? Come on... that's seriously disrespecting MY lifestyle. Making lies about what is exceptable. Someone had a post today about how 33% of vegetarians on a certain poll said they ate fish. Come on.... it's meat! It's an animal. The fact that it swims makes it another species?

It makes me even crazier that when people find out what a vegan is, they still assume they'll eat cheese, and fish. It's almost like "DIDN'T YOU UNDERSTAND THE DEFINITION FIRST?"

    It bugs me completely.

Whomever made up the word "Pescetarian" obviously wasn't too smart. "A vegetarian that consumes fish." Kind of... an oxymoron.

Crap... now I'm all heated.|||I don't know. It's really dumb, as there is a word to describe people who don't eat meat but eat fish: pescetarian. I had a friend who was vegan, and she explained it to people that she just didn't eat or use anything that came from something with a heartbeat.|||Aaaaaaarrrgh! I'm vegan %26amp; am not anemic or lacking in protein, or any vitamins or minerals for that matter. People who say they are veg*n yet "have to eat meat" have poor diets (whether they eat flesh or not), not to mention an obviously lacking mental capacity.

I think people think less of eating fish/seafood because a) they aren't cute, fluffy animals and b) they don't believe they suffer as much at slaughter.

If anything, fish suffer more than other animals when they are killed - not only are their throats cut but they are also deprived of oxygen first. That's torture THEN death.

Ugh - I could go on forever about the stupidity of so called 'vegetarians' but I won't, just know that you are doing the right, ethical thing being vegan and just like regular omnis, these people are ignorant of the facts.|||IKNOW IT IS SOOO ANOOYING. My sister eats shrip and says its bugs!!! i mean come on.there is no diffrence people just dont care about water animals. yes u are eating their flease!! its soo mean. well bye|||Some vegetarians eat fish from time to time, which i think is okay. Tell your friends that you know vegetarianism better than they do.

If they disagree, tell them that you see no difference between human animals and other animals and then ask them to pass the salt.|||It's just because it's cool to be vegetarian or vegan but they don't want to put out too much effort

I used to hang out with this girl in one of my classes who said she was vegan and we went to lunch together one day, where she ate this organic cheese pasta thing and said it was vegan since it was organic.|||good qs peolpe tell me thats it ok to eat fish and chicken and i mean chicken wtf? ppl r stupid|||People are idiots. Don't worry about it. Most people can't really relate to fish as they can to mammals. I'm not sticking up for them or anything, but, ya know....|||Some people are just ignorant as to what vegetarianism actually is. I can't believe how many people I know who still think fish don't feel pain! IMO eating fish is just as bad as eating any other animal. And as for those who claim to want to be vegetarian but can't because of anemia: Unless you don't have a balanced diet you can usually get enough iron from vegetables, but if you happen to have an iron defficiency you can get pure iron juice at the chemist. It's a great supplement.|||THANK YOU!!! It really bothers me when I see someone eating meat when they claim to be a vegetarian or a vegan. I think to truly be veg, you need to NOT EAT MEAT. Who cares if the animal can walk or not, IT CAN SUFFER, which is why people like us don't torture them for unnecessary food. Meat is cruel, whether it comes from the land or sea. Also, fishing boats pollute and kill rare animals, such as sea turtles or dolphins. It bothers me when others try to push chicken or fish on me, saying that most vegetarians eat THAT kind of meat. I'm a vegetarian so I can save innocent animals, whether the animal is a fish, chicken, cow, pig, or anything else.

If people who claim to be veg but eat meat really wanted to save animals, they would have the self control to eat things other than carcasses of innocent creatures.

Good luck with the saving of innocent animals ^-^|||vegitarians can eat cookies, chips, ice cream, pancakes, watermelons, cheese sandwiches, tater tots, french fries, cheese pizza, guacamole, cereals like cocoa pebbles, and trix, sodas, all candies, popcorn, bean burritos, and alot more|||the meanning of vegetarian is not to eat or harm any animal if any persoan eats fish they are non as non-vegetarian

    Lacto Ovo Vegetarian

A lacto ovo vegetarian does not eat meat, fish or poultry, but eats eggs and milk. They eat eggs and products made with eggs in them, yogurt, cheese, milk and ice creams.

    Lacto Vegetarian

A lacto vegetarian does not eat meat, fish, poultry or eggs, but includes dairy products in their diet. They will eat milk, ice cream (that does not include eggs), yogurt and cheese. They would avoid ice creams, baked goods, pancakes and veggie burgers that contain eggs.

    Vegan

A vegan does not eat any fish, meat, poultry, eggs, dairy products or foods that contain any of these products. They also do not use any non-food items that contain products from animals, including wool from sheep, leather and silk. Vegans often do not eat honey, because bees may be killed while harvesting it.|||Yeah, alot of the time, when people find out that I am a vegan... they always ask, "so you eat fish?"

I'm like, "no, I don't eat fish... I don't eat any animals" and then I smile at them...

    LOL

    Really though, Alot of people grew up thinking that fish is not meat... that is just the way they were raised... It could have partly to do with how catholics are not allowed to eat meat during lent(on fridays, and holy days) but they are allowed to eat fish... the reason behind such a thing?... I have no Idea... %26gt;%26gt;Well I do have an idea why the church made it OK to eat fish(but I won't get into that here :] )%26lt;%26lt;

So even though it is really annoying, all you can do really is to Politely correct them.

And then there are the people that know fish is meat, and still call themselves "pesca- vegetarians" (gOD I hate that word!)

there's already a pesco vegetarian and a pollo vegetarian (absurd!)... what's next?

oh, i know! a CARNE VEGETARIAN!

yes, we should all be carne-pesco-pollo-vegetarians... ::rolls eyes::|||There are lots of different types of vegetarians. Different things matter to different people. While YOU may disagree, eating fish and nothing else is referred to as PESCAVEGETARIANISM. That is their choice. Get over it. I'm a vegetarian, and it's not a big deal. I don't eat fish, but whensomeone asks me or implies that I do, I simply politely respond that, no, I don't eat fish. Problem solved. Get off your high horse and quit acting so superior and as if other people's vaulues, ideas, beliefs, or way of being is wrong. No one cares. YOU being a vewgan makes you no better than a pescavegetarian. Yes. It's a real thing. What will happen if a vegetarian eats meat?

my friends and i r going to play a joke on this girl who is a vegetarian. we r going to put some meat in her lunch without her knowledge.

i really want to play this joke but at the same time i am worried something bad will happen to her if she eats the meat. i dont want her to anybody to get sick as a result of my prank, because someone might call the police if they find out it was me

will it be okay if she eats some meat?|||This is not something to joke about.

I don't know you, but I'd imagine that you do not eat dog meat or cat meat. Imagine if somebody thought that it would be a funny joke to feed you dog meat under the guise of chicken or beef. The same reasons that you may have for eating some animals as opposed to others can be thought of as equivalent to why your friend does not eat any animal meat.

Please think twice. Be understanding and compassionate and respectful of the choices that other people make for their own lives.|||Biologically, nothing will happen to her. Humans evolved for millions of years to handle meat. A couple years or 20 years of vegetarianism will not undo that capacity. Some vegetarians will say they get sick if they ingest meat. That is either a) the drama queen coming out in them or b) psycho-somatic based on the thought of eating rotting animal flesh. Trust me, I am vegetarian and on the very rare occasion every few years when meat may pass my lips I do not get sick. I've also corrected "vegetarians" many times after I've seen them eating gelatin or sauces made with meat stock, and while they aren't happy about eating it, they do not become sick.

Now, for what will really happen to her, she will get really irate and probably punch you in the mouth. You will deserve it, though, so not much you can do. Grow up.|||It depends how long she's been vegetarian, if someone hasn't eaten meat for long enough eating it can make them sick. However, I think she will have some sort of reason/ belief for not eating meat and she will be very upset on that account so it's a horrible idea. You shouldn't make anyone do something they don't want to it may seem like a prank to you but this sounds more like bullying.|||Good ... maybe some friend will pee in your soda pop when you're not looking. As a joke, of course.

It's not a matter of attempted murder ... it's a matter of being able to respect other people and of caring about others. If you play this "joke", you have neither of these attributes. Likely, she will not be damaged too much by this act (unless she quit eating meat because she is allergic to it) ... it will be YOU who is damaged, by compromising your integrity and worthiness as a human being. What kind of person you are is determine by what you do, by what you choose to do ... what kind of person are YOU going to be?|||The girl might very well throw up.

If you're worried about something bad happening and/or someone calling the police, don't do it!!

It's very rude to mess with a person's dietary choices by tricking them into eating something they don't eat. What if she went vegetarian because of an allergy? That is why I'm vegan...a dairy allergy. If you put dairy in my food "as a joke" I would get ill. Is that funny to you?

You don't know the circumstances, and therefore it's not right for you to pull this "prank."|||1.) That's incredibly mean and immature. How would you like it if someone hid dog sh*t in your food as a prank. Same idea.

2.) Yes, it can absolutely make her sick. It can do anything from give her a stomach ache, head ache, body aches or digestion problems. When I accidentally eat something with meat in it it makes me feel like I have the flu for the rest of the night. My body just aches and I'm incredibly tired with a stomach ache.

Think twice about what you're doing. Be the mature one and tell your friends that it's a bad and mean idea.|||tampering with someones food is never good, you can never know why someone doesn't eat something. this worries me cause what if someone doesn't want to eat something you don't like and you mess with it ant they're allergic or something. .

to answer your question, many vegetarians feel sick and some even throw up after eating meat.she'll probably notice before anyways, troll.|||You are either a very bad troll or a very horrible person. Don't put meat in her food you idiot! It could actually make her sick because if a person is vegetarian for long enough when they eat meat again it can make them throw up and stuff because they aren't used to it. Just don't do it.|||It will not be ok if she eats meat because it will make you a complete jerk, with no respect for others beliefs.

Would you feed a Jewish person pork for a ''joke?'' Her vegetarianism will mean just as much to her as a religion would, so don't even think about doing it.|||I know you don't want to here this but you really shouldn't do it....first and for most she will feel horrible for eating meat...she obviously has very strong beliefs about it...also, she will get sick from eating meat...her body is not used to eating meat so she may throw up...or at least she will feel very sick for a while.|||really, please dont do that.

i bet she'll feel really guilty after eating the meat. she'll probably smell the meat even before she eats it, if youre not lucky. and she might as well throw up!

and she'll probably be very very mad at you!!

trust me, its not a good idea.|||definitely don't do it. i am a vegetarian and my uncle snuck some meat into my food and i was sick for a week. i wasn't always a vegetarian but the safe thing to do is not to do it bc your friend my have grown an allergies to meat which can end extremely bad!|||She will probably get pissed. I mean it is her lifestyle she chooses not to eat meat for a reason, so I don't know why you would even want to do that. Like grow up.

And no, meat is not good for you, you **** heads. Do your research.|||Easy. She won't be a vegetarian anymore. BUT it is a very immature thing to do! You should respect the girls wishes! She might be allergic to meat and get seriously injured !|||She will get physically sick, if she eats meat. What is your reasoning for doing this? Why do you find it funny to mock someone else's beliefs?

ps- you're a bad person.|||chances are no. but it sepends on why shes a veggie.

some people are legit alergic to some kinds of meat some just dont like killing the poor little cows.

most people just feel bad for the cows.. id say 95 percent nothign will hasppen|||Nothing will happen to her. But that's a very bad thing to do as a joke.|||That is SOOO mean. You should be ashamed of yourself.|||nothing will happen|||do it, you already know your to blame for anything that happens. Every action has a reaction|||No, she will burst into flames.|||noooooooo

her head will explode and it will go everywhere!!!!!!!!1111|||If shes been Vegetarian for a long time, then she will get sick. Its like if an anorexic hasn't ate for a long time then eats. The anorexic will throw it up because she hadn't ate in a long time. If you make a Vegetarian eat meat that hasn't aten meat in a while, she'll get severely sick. Her body doesn't make the proteins to digest the meat anymore and so when she eats it, her body can't digest it properly. Then again, do you know why shes a vegetarian? Some people are vegetarian because their body can't digest meat protein in the first place.

Don't be so mean, leave her alone!|||It's way more fun to sneak pork or shrimp to a devout Jew. They get hit by lightning because G-d is so angry at them.

No, not really, but hopefully you were horrified at the thought of sneaking something non-Kosher to a person for whom keeping Kosher is important. Now ask yourself why you aren't just as horrified at the thought of sneaking meat to someone for whom eating meat is not important.

The only thing that I can guarantee will happen is that YOU will be a jerk (I would use a much stronger word here) and if this girl ever finds out, you will (rightfully) lose any iota of respect she's ever had for you. If she is your friend, you will also lose a friend.

She might get sick. She will probably notice that there is meat (maybe even by smell). If she skips meat because of an allergy (rare, but they do exist), she might get REALLY sick or even have her throat swell closed. If she's got a severe allergy, she probably carries an Epi pen, so if she injects herself and you call 9-1-1 she likely won't die, but still, it would be really scary and you would definitely get in trouble for your "prank."

What is wrong with you (besides probably being too young to actually be on Y!A) that you think this sort of thing is funny?|||They will learn to like IT!!!! stupid veggies, meat is good for you and its good!

How do I lose 15 pounds in one month on a vegetarian diet?

Please no lectures. I'm 5'7, I'm 16 years old and weigh 140 pounds. I want to be about 128 pounds before school starts and I was just wondering if anyone similar to me had some successful diet plans that they went on? I do yoga 5-6 times a week because I'm not the best at exercising hahah thanks! :)How do I lose 15 pounds in one month on a vegetarian diet?
    This is how it works.

1 to lose a pound, you need a 3500 calorie deficit.

2 you need to figure out how much you are burning a day. There are some more accurate formulas out there, but at your age, with your activity level (you鈥檙e at least doing yoga), 12 calories a pound is a pretty good estimate. At 140 you are burning 1680 calories a day. When you reach your goal of 128, you will be burning 1536 calories a day. So that you don鈥檛 have to crunch the numbers every day, I would just average those 2 numbers: 1608. (If your yoga is an aggressive calorie burning yoga, then you will be able to increase these numbers.)

3 figure out how much of a calorie deficit you want in your given time period. 140-128=12 12x3500=42000 If you want to lose 12 pounds, you need a 42000 calorie deficit. If you want to lose that in 30 days, divide that number by 30. 42000/30=1400. To lose 12 pounds-from 140 to 128-you need to lose 1400 calories a day. (Those numbers change significantly depending on your starting weight and the length of time you give yourself to lose the weight)

4 if you are burning 1608 a day and want to lose 1400 of those calories then: 1608-1400=208. You can eat 208 calories a day.

That鈥檚 the math. That鈥檚 how it works.

There are lists of problems with a diet of 208 calories a day. (See Amelia鈥檚 comment) But even if you are OK with going crazy with starvation, you might not be ABLE to do it. You are hard wired to survive, and this will most likely lead to binging. Also, that 12 calories a pound metabolism estimate, on a 208 calorie diet, will SIGNIFICANTLY drop. That鈥檚 your body鈥檚 way of keeping you alive: slowing down your metabolism. And on a starvation diet you will lose as much muscle as fat, which defeats the purpose.

    Two real options:

    1. extend that 30 day goal to a 103 day goal. 42000/103=407.76 You would need a 408 calorie deficit a day to achieve this. 1608-408=1200 If you extend your diet to 103 days, you can eat 1200 calories a day. You wouldn鈥檛 have to increase your exercise level, and you would attain your goal just before thanksgiving.

    2. If you REALLY REALLY want to lose the 12 pounds in 30 days, and will do anything to obtain it, there is a solution. You will still need to eat 1200 calories a day, but you have to burn the difference between 208 and 1200 calories. So you would need to exercise off (1200-208=992) 992 calories a day. 1200 calories a day is kind of a magic number, because if you are filling your diet with lots of fruits and Green vegetables, you can eat constantly. The trick to staying on a diet is NEVER letting yourself get hungry. This can be achieved on a 1200 calorie diet, any lower and you risk allowing yourself to get hungry. This is even harder if you are adding enough exercise to burn an additional 992 calories a day. The extra exercise will increase your appetite. You need to constantly be eating super healthy, low calorie foods. You cannot let yourself get hungry. So, how do you burn 992 calories? The estimate is to do two and a half hours to three hours of cardio a day. This is assuming an aggressive cardio, wherein you are sweating and your heart rate is up: Jogging, swimming, high impact aerobics. You could definitely burn 992 calories in less than two and a half hours, but it depends on so many factors. I鈥檓 assuming your pace is not that of an athlete or someone who trains in the gym every day. I don鈥檛 see any problem with being a vegetarian on a 1200 calorie a day diet. The problem is getting that two to three hours of exercise a day. This is still considered a risky hard core diet. Losing that much weight in such a small time requires a hard core obsessive desire to attain your goal. (mini lecture so that I can feel better after suggesting such a hard core diet to a 16 year old: even if you are eating 1200 a day, if you are exercising that much, you are in dangerous diet territory. At 16, you should choose much more gentle diet options! Why not make your goal to lose 12 pounds b4 thanksgiving?)

If you are interested in one of the above two real options, whether the reasonable one or the hard core scary one, and you don鈥檛 know what you should eat, I can help you with that too. However, I鈥檝e been extremely long winded here. So I will only go off on that information if you ask me to.
I just lost 15 lbs in one month by eating 400-500 calories a day, exercising constantly, and thinking about food non-stop. DON'T DO IT. Trust me, it was terrible - losing weight that fast makes you feel unbelievably weak and dizzy (towards the end, it took a huge amount of effort just to walk a flight of stairs) and you waste all your time thinking about food. 5'7" and 140 lbs sounds fine, you don't need to lose weight! If you want to though, try losing 5 lbs, NOT 15.

(I know you said no lectures, but I'm not counting this as a lecture, I'm just telling you what to expect. And it's horrible.)

For the record, I also happen to be 16 and I'm 5'8" and started out at a pretty similar weight (129 lbs to 114).How do I lose 15 pounds in one month on a vegetarian diet?
well...if you cut out a ton of calories it is definitely possible, but you don't exactly feel great while your doing it.

i did that to lose weight once (i cut out meat, dairy, and most carbs) and my hair got really thin and i was cold all the time...hence iron defeiceny(spelled that wrong? haha).

if you're not too worried about your health, then eat mainly vegetables and fruit but also eat protein like tofu, beans, tempeh, etc. garbanzo beans are really good for you and have iron, and so are avocados. almonds are good for protein too and healthy fats.

good luck! remember veggies veggies veggies. oh and lots of fruit. try to eat most of your carbs in the morning. the problem with most veggies trying to lose weight is that they eat more carbs...eat more protein!
hahahhaha you cant lose 15 pounds on diet alone. you'd need rigorous exercising... good luck %26lt;.%26lt;How do I lose 15 pounds in one month on a vegetarian diet?
gawd, just order some spanx and call it a day, you can shave off a good 15 pounds with spandex, trust me

I would like to have a family dinner for my new family...A cousin is vegetarian or a vegan not sure.?

My boyfriend and I have been together for a year, and I am wanting to have a dinner for them. Nothing fancy just homey and welcoming. My problem is my BF's cousin is a vegetarian. I have heard that he does not eat eggs either, soo I am guessing I need to find something w/o cheese and milk too. I need easy suggestions. I do not have a budget that can afford to buy all the fancy vegan and such items. Just something I can offer that will satisfy the cousins pallet and also others who like their hearty dishes. Can any one help on recipes and also enlightening me on some tips. I am looking for an en tree, appetizer and a dessert. I am a little intimidated by this, LOL I love my CHEESE. Have few veggie en trees but they contain cheese, milk all the good stuff. No gourmet and time consuming things please. Easy cheap and satisfying. Thanks ahead of time. arent vegan and vegetarian the same thing?I would like to have a family dinner for my new family...A cousin is vegetarian or a vegan not sure.?
LoL! Your BF's cousin is the exact opposite of me! But my mother makes this veggie dish everyone loves!

    Basically, you need:

    鈥?2 cans of green beans

鈥?A can of cream of mushroom (preferably Campbells)

鈥?Crunchy French onions (French's works best)

Mix the green beans and cream of mushroom in a glass bowl (cuz u need to bake it) and top it off with the French onions. Place a foil over it and place it into the oven heated at 350 degrees. It should take maybe 15-20 minutes (I think, but check it frequently to see if it looks cooked). In order to tell the onions should be kind of brownish and crisp and the top of the sauce should look dark. It's really good and has nothing but veggies. :) Everyone, including your BF's cousin should like it.

For appetizers you could serve cold cuts and pickled lettuce and carrots. If not, try going for something like finger veggie sandwiches. Maybe cucumbers and peanut butter?

Since you love cheese, for another appetizer you could serve mini hot dogs with cheese cubes or crackers with ham and cheese or even cheese and salsa. Get creative! You can look for different ways to make cracker delicious on Rtiz cracker boxes! If you need more ideas, try magazines.

Desert, well, since you BF's cousin is a vegan and you want to serve something delicious, try maybe cut fruit like watermelons or strawberries. You can make strawberry shortcakes for everyone else and make a special strawberry dish for your BF's cousin.

Here's another idea for maybe drinks. Try make berry smoothies. They're highly nutritious and very good. :)

Hope I helped and good luck!
You could make something simple like pasta with marinara sauce, a gourmet salad, some fresh bread with olive oil to dip in instead of butter, maybe have meatballs on the side for carnivores.

For an appetizer, have a veggie tray, and for dessert, have some fresh fruit.I would like to have a family dinner for my new family...A cousin is vegetarian or a vegan not sure.?
i am vegetarian u can try indian cuisine something new and vegan.
I wont post the recipes in this venue, but I would stir fry whatever vegetables you have on hand . Then put them over a pot of Rice noodles, toss with olive oil and fresh parsley.

Next do potatoes and whatever vegetables you have on hand , canned or otherwise, top this with a sauce wade of cooked down tomatoes. Use as many fresh herbs as you can(parsley, cilantro.basil, etc) Also you could make a nice mushroom dish saute n olive oil nice fresh pepper and salted! Make Italian bread with copped tomatoes, garlic, basil salt pepper broil until brown. For dessert a fruit medley with sorbet. Viola! You dinner is perfect!
One of my favoutire vegie meals (I have a few vegie friends) happens to be vegan too...

Spaghetti with tomato and vegie sauce.

    Ingredients:

    Pasta (cooked as usual)

    Onion, diced

    Garlic clove, crushed

1 green pepper, cut into chunks

    5-6 Mushrooms, sliced

Pre-made rich tomato/pasta sauce (just make sure it's not one with any extras added in like bacon or cheese!!)

    Baby spinach leaves, whole

Oregano, Sage, Thyme, (any or all of these to suit your tastes)

    Salt %26amp; Pepper

    Method:

    1. Fry up onion, garlic and pepper in a small amount of vegetable or olive oil (don't use butter!) until onion is cooked through.

    2. Add mushrooms to fry pan and stir for a few minutes.

    3. Add spinach leaves and stir until the leaves go limp.

    4. Add the tomato sauce and herbs, stir through and bring to the boil.

    5. Mix through your pasta and voila, easy tasty vegie/vegan meal.

The best thing about this is you can still serve some parmesan on the table for those who want it!! This way you will make the cousin feel comfortable that you haven't gone to too much trouble just for him!!

    PS.

Sorry, I didn't read that you wanted entree, appetizer and dessert...

Entree you could stick with an Italian theme and have bruschetta (but buy a vegan loaf of bread I'm sure you can afford one special purchase):

Chopped fresh tomato and basil with olive oil on toasted bread.

And for dessert have a nice fresh fruit salad served with lemon gelato. (Real gelato is non dairy)

    Advice for going vegetarian?

I have tried several times to go vegetarian, but it never works. My problem is that I have just been cutting out meat, and not replacing it with other forms of protein. I am the only one in my house that is wanting to go veg., and I find it difficult to plan meals for one, without veggies going to waste in my fridge, and without spending too much, and without eating the same thing over and over.

    Any help?Advice for going vegetarian?
well. what your doing wrong, i think, is planning not planning ahead. i'm vegan and im 13 and i have to make my own meals and both my parents eat meat so yea its pretty hard being the only one in the family. your not gonna get much protein from vegetables and being vegetarian does mean you have to eat veggies but not just that. try having tofu or fake meat. beans are good and tofu with rice or tofu fried in sesame oil with spaghetti is good to. dont worry about it. just go with the flow!
    Try here:

    It really helped me out....

GOOD LUCK !!!Advice for going vegetarian?
garbanzo beans have the SAME protien as meat also try tofu, soybeans and dark vegetables like eggplantXD
eat lots of beansAdvice for going vegetarian?
I'm also the only full-time vegetarian in my house. Learn to love your freezer. Frozen veggies won't rot in your freezer. Big pots of soup can have the rest frozen for other meals. Frozen servings of tofu actually get a meatier texture. The freezer is my best friend.
going vegetarian is like quitting smoking.. you have too gradually step down from it... if u just cut out meat cold turkey ur body will have crazy craving for meat, and u will give into temptation before u know it.. try to plan out your meals before you go shopping so u know exactly what you need for the week.. with fresh fruits and veggies i always just get a weeks worth, some ppl get 3 days then go get more and so on.. just try different things don't set limitations on what foods can and cant go together.. do beans, rice, pastas, there is soy products that are really gud... if there is an Adventist church near you ask some one there directions to where they purchase there soy products and they are frozen and big bang for your buck....

just take it one day at a time... if your having a really bad craving and u just have to have that cheese burger or chicken sand. then have it.. its totally normal when we are transitioning our diets... you know the ark wasn't built in a day... don't beat ur self up over it... gud luck to you!
Make bean burritos. They are pretty much the cheapest meal you can make, they are very filling, full of protein and delicious.

Chili, quinoa and homemade veggie burgers are great too.
its really all about motivation hun .. some people (like me 4 years ago) think its a neat idea to be veg, but just not practical. then one day i just woke up and couldnt eat christmas dinner %26amp; haven`t had meat since.

i`ve seen a TON of my friends ``go veg`` because they `felt so bad for the animals`or some bullsh*t but they never meant it. they were veg for max a month. but didn`t eat right at all.

becoming vegetarian is suchh an adventure - everyone makes fun of you, EVERYONE asks WHY WHY WHY, EVERYONE says `MMM BACON, HAVE SOME!!` . . the list goes on.

you have to assess why you want to be vegetarian... is it because of animal welfare.. or your own personal health concerns .. or environmental factors .. or something else.. or a combination of all of them. whatever it is, that reason is bigger than `your desire`to just fall back on the easiness %26amp; convenience of eating meat. you can`t keep going back to meat because it is convenient.

if you find it too hard, its just not the right time for you to `switch over`(haha) .. but if you really want to be vegetarian (and heck, y woulndntya) you`ll succeed.

    good luck hun!

thanxSuggest me a good diet to reduce my belly size by 30 days i am a vegetarian?
I've recently lost 65lbs since April 9 doing the following:

Do not eat over 2000 calories. Make your calories count. 2000 is a lot believe it or not. I kept my food intake as fat free as possible. And here is the kicker for true success...get a diet journal and write what you eat down. You'll be amazed of how easy it is.

Staple foods with this plan is a lot of chicken breast. Vegetables in the frozen section have a lot to offer that are very low calorie. Snack items...sugar free jello gelatin, sugar free jello pudding. Fresh fruit. 100 calorie snack packs make it easy to keep track.

I lost 21lbs my first month by doing the above and I did not exercise at all. Your weight loss does slow down after this initial period so incorporating some sort of physical activity is essential if you really want to kick it up a notch.

Hang in there and don't give up. Good luck

Okay...I only started five Mondays ago and All I do is walk one hour every morning. I wear a calorie counter monitor to loose weight by the numbers. I have already lost two pant size and 27 pounds. I am a woman and have three kids and this is the method I use when I gain weight.. I am now at a size two and everyone is always amazed that I have had three kids. This is what I do below when I throw on a few extra pounds. It always works..No diet pills, no energy drinks..just me walking and getting the water I need. Of course I watch what I eat and the Lean Cuisine meals are great for that since the calories per box are 180 to 380 per box. Just make sure you eat healthy every three to four hours so your body will perform at its max.

    Helpful Tips for weight loss:

1)A good way to loose weight is to use a calorie counter watch

Keep to a 1,200 food intake

Add 1,200 plus 3,500 (equals one pound of fat) ...and that is the total amount of calories you need to burn each day. Its actually really easy once you start watching the numbers and it doesn't seem like work or exercise. Its just a matter of changing the way you think about loosing weight.

I use this method when i gain some pounds. The first time I did this I went from 168 to 127

    2) Most people do not get enough water in their system. Water is your body's principal chemical component, comprising, on average, 60 percent of your weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.

Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. To determine if you are getting enough water use this simple formula.. Take your weight, for example 150 pounds and divide by 2. Take your answer which is 75 lbs and change it to ounces, in this case 75 ounces. That is how many ounces of water you need a day. Your body performs mostly on water. If you make sure you get enough water everyday your body will perform at top notch and your body will no longer have the cravings of junk food. You will have a better performing body system to help you work out and feel better thru out your day.

How do you go from eating everything to being a vegetarian?

I don't eat too healthy...I do eat meat currently...I tend to eat junk food and many times I overeat...and I wanna lose some weight...so how do I go from eating everything to eating healthier? How do I transition from one to the other? How do you go from eating everything to being a vegetarian?
Gradually. Start by cutting some junk foods out, then when that gets easy, cut them out altogether.

Think up yourself a punishment. If you eat the food; you have to do something to pay the price.

it should tell you about what you need to do to be a healthy vegetarian athlete.

    also,

The vegetarian athlete must make sure protein is taken through the day from sources such as beans and legumes, including soy, nuts and seeds, and whole grains. Dairy and eggs will supply complete proteins if used.

If you're ok with dairy and milk, then I'm assuming you're ok with eggs? They've got lots!

Also nuts, anything soya (tofu, soya milk, etc.), beans/lentils, and things like milk and cheese are good too!

this resource will make it clear to you that what you're being told is garbage by the meatatarians.

i've been a vegetarian for 30 years... never once had i been suffering an deficency.

no dairy, there's nothing but fat in dairy.

Milk, cheese, eggs (I'm a veggie and I eat eggs. Some don't. Personal choice. The eggs you buy at Wal*Mart are not, and never will be, fertile, so it's not really killing anything), nuts, and beans. =)

To SAM S: We're VEGETARIANS! Not VEGANS! We do eat by-product of animals such as milk and cheese.
Dear one, your burning fat, not muscle. Eat lean pork, beef,(buffalo meat med rare)is so awsome. Hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese, skim milk cheeses. Link on to a vegetarian site.
Try fish. I think that's still vegetarian. Lots of protein and omega 3's... I tried whey and although it worked I had diarrhea for a month.. blech.. Went back to eatin chicken and turkey and it all got better.

What should imake for a vegetarian?

we are having a vegetarian couple over for dinner next week.

any good suggestions for a tasty dish??

it will be my fisrt time cooking a dish like this. What should imake for a vegetarian?
I made a broccoli, mushroom and rice casserole for my vegetarian friend.

    2 cups rice uncooked

2 cans condensed cream of mushroom soup (I use the light version)

1 small package of sliced mushrooms

1 head of broccoli cut up into small bite sized pieces

    1/3 cup Parmesan cheese

    a few pats of butter

    salt and pepper to taste

    Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

    Prepare two cups of rice.

Once rice is done in a large bowl mix the rice with the soup, the mushrooms, and the broccoli. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Spread rice mixture into a 9x13 baking pan, put a few pats of butter over the casserole, and sprinkle the cheese over the top.

Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 25-35 minutes (depends on your oven). Make sure the casserole is bubbly hot and the cheese has taken on a nice golden color.
First, think of what you're making for yourself and all other meat-eating guests.

You really don't want to make an alienated dish, make something close to what you're eating with a nice altered twist!

Vegetarian meals aren't something that you're completely clueless about! No one is! Think of your favorite meal, and consider how you could change it to make it vegetarian friendly.

You really don't want to go out to the grocery store, and buy specific vegetarian items that you will never use again for yourself.

It's definitely going to show alot of effort if you make sure they aren't stuck with something like salad, and rolls!

Do they consume eggs? This would make it easier!

Personally, I love eggplant parmesan! Maybe if you make that, as well as a pasta dish, with some meatballs (on the side) everyone can enjoy it! Also... some garlic bread and salad. I know I said not to stick them with these, but they'll also have the pasta and the eggplant to rely on!

Good luck, I hope it goes well! What should imake for a vegetarian?
If it's going to be on the casual side.... Why not veggie pizza?! You can make your own dough or if they eat egg/dairy/wheat you can use Boboli crusts....

Then pile on the veggies and cheese! You can get a little creative.... My favorite Boboli veggie pizza is: red sauce, artichoke bottoms (diced), black olives and green onions! Yum! You can also try eggplant or asparagus! Or get creative with the sauces... Pesto or a white garlic sauce.... Make two pizza's with different sauces/toppings for more variety and you can all share!

Sounds like fun.... When is dinner? :)
Plenty of dishes are vegetarian? Infact the majority of international dishes have meat as a minor influence in the dish if in at all is present. Spaghetti for example... just think of all the things you usually cook that don't have meat as the primary focus like tacos for example..and remove or substitute the meat. =)What should imake for a vegetarian?
for a side dish make a spinach salad w/ceaser dressing .YUM! put hard boiled eggs in it, croutons, tomatoes, and more or get a pre made one at Safeway or Costco
    make a veggie soup

just boil some water and add a whole lot of veggies and add some sauce if youd like!
there is many different ways to make beans also, I love black beans cook with onions, garlic and ginger, throw in some fresh tomatoes serve with some flat bread and fresh fruit...
If they eat eggs %26amp; cheese why not make Eggplant parmasion?

    Or Spinach pie?

If not why not make a vegetarian chilie? or Stuffed peppers (use mushrooms instead of meat.)
wel come to the world of vegetarian because of you more animals will save their live harty congrats for that,we are vegetarian for centuries as we belong to jain religion which is more than 10000 years old, following is the list of protenis and vitamins for you and your family

Proteins: Body's protein needs can be provided by either animal or plant sources. Mixed protein diet obtained from various plant sources is better than animal protein and is recommended in diabetes, renal diseases and liver diseases. Mixed protein diet from different plant sources has been the pattern of diet in India for all vegetarians.

Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are mainly found in plant foods; like cereals, grains, fresh and dry fruits, legumes, vegetable, greens, nuts etc. plant carbohydrates include' large amounts of starches, sugar and fibers which are important for gut functions. The body is better suited to a high carbohydrate diet than a low carbohydrate diet. In fact 55% of the food intake should be carbohydrate. All animal products do not contain carbohydrate which is essential for body.

Fat: Plant fats differ from animal fats in two different ways 1) they are cholesterol free 2) they generally contain more polyunsaturated fat and less saturated fats. Plant fats usually have higher polyunsaturated fat value than animal fats.

A diet which is low in cholesterol and which contains fat of a high PIS value is associated with a lower incident of coronary health disease.

Vitamins and Minerals: plant foods are rich in many vitamins and minerals.

Vitamin D: Vitamin D is obtained by exposure of skin to sun light and this is not a problem in India.

Calcium: The vegetarians can meet their needs for calcium from dairy products. Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) Dark green vegetables are good sources of Riboflavin as are legumes and whole grain cereal.

Iron: The problem of iron deficiency is relatively common but vitamin C significantly enhances absorption of iron hence it is advisable for vegetarians to include with each meal a food high in vitamin C which as lime, citrus fruits or juices.

Zinc: Zinc is found in large number of plant foods.

Fiber: Fiber is found only in vegetarian food like whole grain cereals, legumes, greens, fruits, vegetable etc.

Thus in vegetarian foods all requirement of nutrition for body growth and maintenance is fulfilled. One can have a complete and balanced diet provided we take enough food which is as close to nature as possible in maintaining sturdy and disease free body. It is equally helpful in curing many diseases.

    ADVANTAGES OF VEGETARIAN DIET:

More %26amp; more evidence is surfacing that directly links a prolonged non- vegetarian diet to diseases as cancers, heart diseases, diabetes, asthma just to name a few.

    1. LOGEVITY: Vegetarian can expect to live 4-10 years longer then the non-vegetarians.

" Source: Seventh day Adventists study

    2. LESS HEART DISEASE: Because of low fat, saturated fat and cholesterol content of the vegetarian diet the risk of heart disease is lowered. High blood cholesterol levels are associated with increased risk of heart disease.

    3. LESS CANCER: Up to 40% of all cancers are diet related. Cancer death rates have been associated with obesity and high fat / low fiber diet. Vitamin A %26amp; C are thought to be protective against colon cancer. Low fat diets protect against prostrate and breast cancer. Indoles, lignans, isoflavones, protease inhibitors which are present in plant foods and shown to be potent anti carcinogens.

    4. LESS BOWEL DISEASE: Diverticular disease and appendicitis occur more frequently with low fiber intake as in meat diet.

    5. LEES OBESITY %26amp; LESS INCIDENCE OF DIABETES: It is easier to plan a low fat diet for a vegetarian then for a meat eater. The fiber in plant food dilutes the energy %26amp; provides a satisfying meal without all the calories. Diabetes over the age of 40 seems to be related to obesity.

    CONLUSION:

When activists like M.K. Gandhi, sports personalities like Martina Novratilova %26amp; Carl Lewis, beauties like Brooke Shields %26amp; Kate Winslet, physists like Edison, Albert Einstein %26amp; A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, religious leaders %26amp; mystics like Jesus %26amp; Osho can be legendaries in there respective fields taking the advantage of being vegetarian, Is'nt it more prudent on our part to switch over to vegetarianism %26amp; enjoy better quality %26amp; longevity of life.
Grilled vegetables like eggplant, portabella mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, artichokes, peppers. You can serve it with a light pasta even.

    Are they vegetarian or vegan?

If they are vegan, try baking sweet potatoes or yams (twice baked uses sour cream and cheese in my recipe).

Repeat until you have four Quesadillas, then open them and put in the Pepperoncini, if desired.

    Cut in half and serve.

Hope you enjoy this, I sure do
Spaghetti dinner works good, and it's something you allready know how to cook, I'm sure. To make it vegetarian, just follow these steps.

    1. Just boil noodles

    2. Find some Prego without meat or cheese (in case they're vegan) read the ingredients. Most "garden style" or "mushroom" or "garlic and onion" etc.. are fine. IF they have meat or chese, they'll usually say so upfront. You can dress it up by sauteeing some finely chopped green pepper, onion, and garlic in a pan w/ a little oil, then adding the sauce to that. You can also add a little stewed tomatoes to make it nice.

    3. Get some margerine (soy garden or smart Balance Light) that has no dairy (in case they're vegan) and use it on French Bread with Garlic Powder to make Garlic Bread. Butter the bread heavily, sprinkle with Garlic Powder heavily, bake 10-15 minutes, watching carefully. You can even turn the oven from "Bake" to "broil" the last 5 min, but then you have to watch SUPER carefully. (Literally every 30 seconds almost)

    4. Make a nice Garden Salad with lettuce, tomatoes, olives, cukes, celery, carrot shreds. Find an Italilan salad Dressing w/o cheese (in case they're vegan) Might have to read a few labels till you find one tha doesn't have a bit of cheese.

    5. Steam some Broccoli, Corn, Peas, or green beans

Optional: In a pan SEPARATE from the main sauce, you can make some meatballs that you and your spouse or any other meat-eating guests can add to your own spaghetti if you want. Just keep them separate from the vegetarian's sauce

Boom, you have a tasty, easy (about 40 minutes, very little work.) meal that vegetarians love.

P.S. If you know they're NOT vegan (meaning you know they eat milk and cheese) You don't have to be so picky about the margerine, salad dressing, and you can add crutons for the salad (most have chese). You can serve parmesean chese for the spaghetti, or get a sauce with cheese.
    DONT MAKE SALAD.

i find that quite annoying when the only thing available to me is salad.
    fruit salad
Tacos are a great menu choice especially for feeding a mixed group of vegetarians and non vegetarians. Just prepare all of the fixings, tomatoes, cheese, lettus, onion, re-fried beans, etc and let every one fix their own taco's. This way they can put on or leave off what ever they like or don't like. Makes everyone happy.

How do I go vegetarian? After watching "Meet your Meat", I plan to completely change my way of eating.

I pretty much gave up eating red meat many years ago, but never knew about the cruel treatment of chickens, turkeys, and fish. I never had any idea that by drinking milk and eating dairy products I am supporting the inhumane treatment of cows as well. A friend told me I can buy free range milk, dairy products and eggs where the animals are not mistreated. Where can I find these items? I will also have a hard time even buying or cooking meat for my husband. How can I convince him to try to go vegetarian as well? How do I go vegetarian? After watching "Meet your Meat", I plan to completely change my way of eating.
I know what you are talking about go to www..PETA.com and choose go veg and you will find some rec.
Try your local wholefood or Co-Op grocery for the dairy and egg product. As for your husband, all you can do is tell him how you feel. But don't judge him or constantly throw your beliefs in his face or he'll become resentful. If anything, tell him he'll have to prepare and buy his own meat from now on. You can't force someone to change. How do I go vegetarian? After watching "Meet your Meat", I plan to completely change my way of eating.
How to Go Vegetarian or Vegan

So you鈥檝e decided to go vegetarian or vegan. But now what? If you're trying to figure out what your next step should be, these quick tips will help you make the transition.

Transform dishes that you already know and enjoy. For example, omit meatballs from your favorite spaghetti recipe, or replace with a vegetarian substitute, such as GimmeLean. Chances are, much of what you already eat could easily be made vegetarian.

Explore new foods! One of my favorite things to do is to try one new product every time I go to the grocery store. As a result, I eat a much more varied diet as a vegan than I ever did before. Although most large grocery stores stock soy milk and veggie burgers, try browsing in your local health food stores to see what new foods you can find.

Try it twice. If you hated a particular food the first time, such as veggie burgers, try it again later, using a different product brand or prepared differently or with different seasonings and spices. Not all products are the same, and you may prefer one product or style of preparation. For example, if you microwaved your veggie burger the first time, try grilling it next time.

Browse health food stores. There's always something new to try, and the staff can help you find what you're looking for or give advice on which products are best.

Give yourself a break! Don鈥檛 throw in the towel if you can鈥檛 resist that burger. Just take a breath and resolve to do better at the next meal. Another idea is to allow yourself one day a week to eat meat. If you鈥檙e finding it difficult to stick to a vegetarian diet, you鈥檙e much more likely to pass something up, knowing you can indulge on Saturday or Sunday.

Be patient! You may find it easy to go vegan overnight, while others struggle just omitting red meat. Everyone really is different, but rest assured that with time, your cravings will subside. Remembering your goals and reasons for going vegetarian or vegan will help you when you are tempted to give in.

Learn, read and talk. Learn and read as much as possible about vegetarian health and foods. Knowledge is power! If you know any other vegetarians or vegans, ask them for their tips or advice. Everyone will have something different to share, but most people are more than willing to provide a bit of advice and will likely be flattered that you asked.

Browse your local bookstore for a great vegetarian cookbook. Look for one that not only appeals to you, but has a variety of recipes that are simple enough for everyday use.

If you鈥檙e the only one in your family transitioning to a vegetarian diet, you don鈥檛 have to cook two separate meals! Simply cook the meat for dishes like stir-fries and pasta dishes in a separate pan and add to a separated portion just before serving.

Try new restaurants. Seek out Chinese, Indian, Middle Eastern and Thai restaurants and taste the many dishes and foods they have to offer.

Be sure to replace meat with healthy foods and eat a balanced diet. If you are eating nothing but French fries and chips, your health will suffer, and you will want to resort to your former eating habits. Eat a variety of whole grains, vegetables and proteins, such as tofu or veggie burgers to stay full and healthy.
Its super easy to go veggie, and congrats to you for doing so. Just replace meat with beans, legumes, mushrooms, whole grains (quinoa, pronounced keen wa is awesome) There are many meat substitutes, made from soy, but not only am I allergic to them, they are just too close to the real deal. I am fortunate enough to have a well pampered cow that happily gives me the gift of her fresh raw milk, which I churn into butter and use to make homemade cheese. You can usually purchase raw dairy from a food co op or local dairy farm-where the animals are well cared for. I consider eggs to be a gift from chickens. Many will tell you you are eating a dead chick if you eat eggs-simply not true, They are unfertilized, and therefor are no more a chick than a womans period is a baby. Eggs, if left on the ground, would be a waste. Try to find a good source of organic, free range eggs-again, a food co op usually has them. Sadly, I am allergic to them, but I fix them for my daughter all of the time. As for your hubby, I can only make a suggestion. Don't try to convert him, but do explain your choice to him, and suggest that he limit eating meat out only, or purchasing it and cooking it himself, in his own pan. You should not have to look at dead flesh once you have realized how wrong it is. Another way to motivate yourself about not eating meat is to research how unhealthy that nasty stuff really is. First, the animals are fed an unnatural diet of pesticide laden grains and ground up brains and organ meats. They are pumped full of antibiotic to overcome deplorable diseases and conditions. They are given growth hormones and steroids to make them ready for slaughter faster. Uric acid, urine, and fecal matter is in the meat as well. After learning these facts, meat lost all of its appeal to me, and I now find it repulsive. Good luck to you! I hope this helps a bit By the way, ignore the fools who will post saying you are "meant" or "designed" to eat meat. They are all just following the rest of the uninformed, so pay them no mindHow do I go vegetarian? After watching "Meet your Meat", I plan to completely change my way of eating.
one step at a time, first you eat your veggs, if it goes well then you can talk to your husby about, from my experience, a guy won't give up meat very easily, and will be very offensive about it, so don't force it
Most organic farms can supply you with information. There are magazines and other written material all about organic and healthy eating. Start with whole food stores like Wheatfields. You may even find organic meats, where the animals are not mistreated -- same with cruelty-free cosmetics.

Legumes, rice, pasta and soy products are all excellent substitutes for meat, and provide protein as well. Then there's the vast array of fruits and vegetables. Men are usually much harder to convert to vegetarianism, but there are excellent vegetarian cookbooks. Try him out on some of the delicious recipes. He may not be convinced all at once, but keep adding vegetarian dishes to your menus. I have the same problem. While I'm not a complete vegetarian, I much prefer veggies, salads, fruits, pasta and rice to red meat. I still eat chicken and some fish, but roast beef and hamburger hold no charm for me. I must confess to an occasional filet mignon, but this is rare because they are too expensive, and I only indulge in them on special occasions. Good luck in your pursuit of the vegetarian life. If you have children, be sure they get enough protein and minerals through supplements. Kids are not avid vegetable eaters, but there are ways of disguising veggies by pureeing them and adding them to soups and pasta sauces, etc., a trick I use to get my husband to eat them....
Something you really need to remember; these are ANIMALS. Animals treat EACH OTHER worse than we could ever dream of treating them, by human standards.
I pity your husband, a typical yoghurt weavers attitude.

Is being partially vegetarian good for the environment?

Or does it have a negligible impact?

For example, eating meat only 3 times a week or less. Does reducing the amount of meat consumed help, or not really? Is being partially vegetarian good for the environment?
YES! Becoming a partial vegetarian is very good for the environment. It has actually been advocated by several environmental groups. When you choose to lower the amount of meat you eat, you lower the demand. When demand drops, the livestock farmers stop forcing animals to reproduce at such a high rate.

The total number of livestock- chickens, cows, pigs, goats, sheep, is 15 BILLION, they out number people 3 to 1. The sheer number of livestock are using up the earths resources every second of their lives. Further, consider that producing 1 pound of steak from a feedlot results in the loss of 35 pounds of topsoil. Topsoil takes 200-1,000 years to form 1 inch. Then think about this, "one acre of prime land can produce many pounds of edible product. Here are a few examples:

    30,000 pounds of apples

    40,000 pounds of potatoes

    50,000 pounds of tomatoes

    250 Pounds of beef

    -Carole Raymond

When you think about it, all of the plant food we can grow on 1 acre of land could feed more people with a lower impact on the environment than meat. Here's another thing to consider, it takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce 1 edible pound of beef. It takes 49 gallons of water to produce 1 edible pound of apples. Obviously, growing plant food uses fewer resources than raising livestock.

Every little bit of meat you cut out of your diet helps the earth. You don't have to cut out meat completely, but partial vegetarianism is a fabulous way to help reduce your impact on the environment. I'm a partial vegetarian myself. Remember, a dollar spent is a dollar voted. If people want less meat produced, buy less. Reduce demand. Hope this helps!

P.S. If you're looking for a good vegetarian cookbook, Deborah Madison's Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone is one of the greatest cookbooks of our time.
    Absolutely!

Let's assume the average meat eater eats about 20 animals a year. That is a very conservative estimate, less than half a chicken a week.

If you cut out half the meat, that is at least 10 animals you don't eat. Given the fact that there are more and more part-time 'vegetarians' out there, all of you together actually reduce the demand of meat by millions of animals a year.

Also you have a positive impact on the environment as soon as you cut back on meat. In terms of CO2 emissions 1 day of average meat eating (the meat alone) equals about 24 kilometers of driving a car.Is being partially vegetarian good for the environment?
You cannot be partially vegetarian. You either are vegetarian or your not. Reducing your meat intake is the smallest baby step in a decent direction hopefully but it isn't going very far. Meat isn't healthy for you or the environment or most especially the animals you eat. It is much simpler and better to just eliminate all animal products from your life it will be better for all.

You are right about supply and demand. However we have to also work to shut them down and not just wait a while for people to stop.
It is very good for the environment.

    1. It takes 100 acres to produce enough beef for 20 people but enough wheat to feed 240 people.

    2. We use a large amount of water to feed cattle (which is contributing to the water shortage we have now).

Europeans eat about half the amount of meat Americans eat weekly.

Not just that, it is also very good for you!

Hope this helped! Is being partially vegetarian good for the environment?
It helps ut only a little. Meat eating is bad for the environment because it increases CO2 emmissions, means that rainforest gets chopped down and that loads of land is taken up to provide only a small amount of food. With one feild of cows you could feed 2 meat eaters for a months but about 8 veggies if it was full of crops.
It has both a negative and a positive. And it depends on the animal population.

Negative- Its negative because if there wasn't any farmers for cattle and stuff then it could impact the whole predator and pray thing. I.E. in hunting they give you tags depending on if there are more Doe or Bucks. There has to be some kind of balance.

Positive- Well i can think of more negative reasons but here's one. It could be the exact opposite reason of the above. By being vegetarian it could balance out the animal population.

I can't think of positives right now but there are some out there. Hope this helps :)
Your killing us, you should eat more meat. If carbons are released by cattle, then shouldn't you eat more, the less you eat the longer these things stay alive to destroy us. Put on your thinking cap young person.
not eating meat wont stop people from not killing animals. they are already dead, not to sound like a barbarian but, might as well eat em.
It's like any environmental thing: every little bit helps.

Is there any end to feeling hungry once I've decided to become a vegetarian?

I just get so hungry at times. Is there any end to feeling hungry once I've decided to become a vegetarian?
Best fillers- fiber and protein. You're lacking adequate protein as a vegetarian- do some research on protein sources that contain all the amino acids your body needs. i think eggs and whey protein are included in that category.

good luck! :)Is there any end to feeling hungry once I've decided to become a vegetarian?
You should eat at least 6 times a day, plus you should be drinking water at least 6 glasses(8oz) a day and a multi vitamin. Then see if your still bothered with hunger. Is there any end to feeling hungry once I've decided to become a vegetarian?
Try getting some more protein in your diet. Beans are an excellent source of protein, so are nuts.
