If I've been a vegetarian for a long time and eat meat again, will I get sick?

I haven't eaten meat in 15 years, with the exception of fish. I'm considering eating a little red meat sometimes to gain weight because I'm about 20 pounds underweight for my height. If I've been a vegetarian for a long time and eat meat again, will I get sick?
No you won't get ill. You might want to ease into it or check out a flexitarian diet. A flexitarian diet allows you to eat meat in moderation.
Probably not, although you might experience some short term dietary discomfort.

There are better ways of putting on weight than going back to meat again though I think. If you're not eating enough calories, getting sufficient amino acids, and doing anaerobic exercise regularly, it might be tricky to gain weight.

Make sure you're eating enough, and consult a veggie experienced nutritionist and physical trainer if you can if you need help planning a weight gain diet. But you can do it.If I've been a vegetarian for a long time and eat meat again, will I get sick?
I went vegetarian for a while, and gained weight because of all the dairy carbs I was eating to replace the meat (but it wasn't a bad thing). It all depends on what kind of diet you have. Are you getting enough protein? This sounds like a problem to take to a nutritionist.

But to answer your question, I haven't gone back to red meat, but eased back into chicken and turkey with a few bites at a meal before getting back to full portions. Start small.
My girlfriend is a vegetarian, hadn't eaten anything (including fish) for about 4 years. She ate tuna (which she previously liked) and threw it up.

Don't know if it will be the same thing, but just try a little bit and see how you feel. Sometimes it can shock your body since you haven't had it for many years. If I've been a vegetarian for a long time and eat meat again, will I get sick?
Try to consume one of those small container of whole yogurt daily instead. And eat lots of avacados, and nuts too. And don't forget fruits and veggies. If you eat meat again Your body will stand there in awe wondering why you dumped a pile of crap back into it again.
just cause you need to gain weight doesn't mean you have to eat meat. that seems pretty ridiculous to me. although you always ate fish so i guess you never were really a vegetarian.

you might get sick so start slow. i don't really know what else you want to know.
Since your body has been consuming fish, it is likely that your body won't react abnormally to other animal products. As long as you don't ingest a full serving of meat the first time you choose to eat it, you will be fine.
Well, I'm vegan again now, but when I stopped for a little while 6 months ago I ate a little. It made my stomach hurt for that day, but it was just because I wasn't use to it. I'm not sure though, you may have a different reaction.
I was vegetarian for 10 years. The first meat thing I ate, I think, was shrimp, nothing bad happened... the first non-fish was pepperoni pizza, nothing bad happened either.

I don't think it will be bad.
Honestly, I've never been a anything. I just eat all around food. But, by my better judgment, start slow, and work your way up to thicker, richer meats.
It depends if your body does not approve. if it does your going to be fine, actually your a mammal! your supposed to at meat, (but also eat veggies)
I got sick. :-( Start slow and avoid fatty meats and cuts.
You will get well.
you will not get sick

your energy level will rise

you will not look unhealthy anymore

you will not need vitamins anymore

if you want to gain weight eat the fat on the meat as well i personally dont like the fat

you will not feel hungry all the time

enjoy and welcome back to a normal life
