I'm 15 and i've been a vegetarian for over two years. I can never seem to find things that are healthy and taste okay, so I just eat whatever. My bmi has just gotten up to 25 and I've decided I need to to work on this. How many calories should I be eating a day in order for me to loose some weight over time without going into starvation mode? Any tips for a vegetarian?
Thanks in advance.I'm a vegetarian and i can't seem to develop good eating habits?
I love the people who tell you they don't really know but proceed to give you advice anyway. Almost as much as the trolls who tell you to eat meat.
There are about 3 million websites you can look at to calculate a good daily calorie intake for you to lose weight gradually, get vegetarian recipes and recommendations on what to eat to obtain all the proper nutrients.
We don't know how tall you are, your fitness level or what you like to eat. You have a computer right in front of you but you're too lazy to do the research yourself to continue being a vegetarian in good health. You just want us to spoon feed you the answer.
Now I call that commitment.
You should be shooting for 1800-2100 calories per day.
Many people think that being vegetarian is a panacea for good health.. it's not. You still need to make sure you're eating appropriately - avoiding junk food and oily things.I'm a vegetarian and i can't seem to develop good eating habits?
from a fellow vegetarian i know what you mean!
well firstly I dont know your height but assume between 14oo-1900. also try eating the smart brand vegetrain products as well as amys frozen meals. they are both delicious and healthy. go calculate your basal metabolic rate and that will give you a good idea for around how many calories a day. good luck stay veg!
First off, if you are eating a lot of soy products, you will put on weight and will get very tired... soy trashes your thyroid. Soy also blocks your ability to absorb nutrition from all the other foods you are eating.
If you are eating lots of fruits, avocados, bananas, raw nuts (never roasted) and lots of good greens, you should be making all of your nutritional requirements and still have normalized weight and plenty of energy. Don't worry about how many calories... just eat the right stuff and listen to your body.I'm a vegetarian and i can't seem to develop good eating habits?
I was Vegan in college. I'm not now, but I still eat a lot of Vegetarian/Vegan foods because I just like them. Its tough because a lot of the foods you can eat are packed with carbs. But there is hope!!!
As a teenager, you really cant afford to go under 2000 calories a day. Adding exercise will maximize the benefits of the calories! Make sure you are doing cardio AND toning exercises. If this is your first time working out on a regular basis talk to your doctor or gym teacher first. They can help you best to pick a routine that is safe and right for you.
Its hard to develope good eating habits when you only have a few choices. Try going to the grocery store and walking each and every food isle. Take your time and look at each item and decide if its something you can eat. Make a list!!! Take it home and start designing your own recepies out of the things you found. You will be amazed at how many different things you will come up with.
By doing this you will design actual meals and snacks for yourself and not have to just eat "whatever". Because when you eat just whatever, you tend to end up with more calories because you will not be satisfied and tend to snack more. Solid balanced meals (minus the meat group) will also help out your body to burn fat.
Good luck!
IM me any questions you have!
But as I always have to say... make sure your parents know you are talk on line first :)
Try 1500 calories for about 1-2 pounds of weight loss a week, which is totally healthy. Cut down on pasta, and add garlic or other spices to make veggies better.

first you should be taking mutivitmin pills and you should talk with your doc bout your iron leavels but you should be getting a
at least 1000 calorys if you do that and exesize you are being helthy!
1200 calories is the calorie intake you should have. Try not to go over this, it's ok go to go under, but if you go over it could possibly lead to weight gain. I wouldn't so much count your calories...i watch what you are putting into your body.
I'm a vegetarian as well, and had the same problem. Make sure you cut out all high fructose corn syrup in all of your foods. It is uneccasary sugars. Eat all fruits 20 minutes before a meal (helps digest it better). Don't mix proteins and carbs together during a meal. Don't mix fats and proteins together.
Try to stay away from pizza...pasta... the usual for a vegetarian ;)
Try things like these:
BOCA burgers
veggie burgers
beans
salads (try it with vinegar and oil-has no fat)
tofu
whey protein smoothies
"balance bars"
soy yogurt
Good luck :)
Also: Just because you are eating well doesn't mean you are "healthy". You should try to work out 4 times a week for at least 30 minutes. Try walking/running/gym...
the how many calories should i be eating depends totally on your daily activities. in order to lose weight in general you must lose more calories than what your eating. you should eat 1,200 calories and workout to burn more than 1,200 calories. eat alot of fruits and vegies. and since you need the protein, nuts and tofu. and stuff. im a vegitarian too.=]
well at 15 you should be having meat for protein. idk if you are christian but God but animals on earth to eat. I guess 1000 calories?
eat meat
go back and be a non vegetarian...u'll have lots more to eat then...whats the fuss about being a vegetarian...is it a FAD
You better be careful. Some vegetarians don't get all the vitamins needed. My ex was one and she would pass out and have seizures from nutritional deficiences. She had the most beautiful red hair but it started to tear out in patches.
