Why is everyone who doesn't eat a lot of meat wanting the title of vegetarian?

i used to be a vegetarian. i didn't eat anything that was the flesh of another animal.

the only animal products i did eat were cheeses; milk and eggs but only in baked goods. i didn't even eat gelatin.

Carnivore: root Carne - meat.

Vegetarian: root Vegetable

even though i do eat meat now, i dont' eat much at all. i never have it at home, i eat completely vegetarian food all the time, but i'm not a vegetarian.

so my question is...people who dont' eat red meat, or white meat, or only eat fish...why do you keep wanting to be called a vegetarian? it's not like you get a prize, or you get paid.

if you only eat vegetables and red meat...would you consider yourself a vegetarian? o_0Why is everyone who doesn't eat a lot of meat wanting the title of vegetarian?
Honestly, I think that if a person does not eat ANY type of meat (all animals included) then they are vegetarian. When you only eat meat "sometimes" or only a certain kind, you loose that title because then your not truly a vegetarian. There are other names for the other kinds of restrictive diets. (pollotarians for instance only consume chicken meat)

As for why these people "say" they are vegetarian, it must be because it makes then feel like they're more admirable. Because they have the willpower to not eat meat. (But it really is sad that they feel like they have to lie.) I'll admit that I DO admire the people at my work who are vegetarians while the rest of their family isn't. Shows that they are strong in their beliefs. Even inspired me to do a little bit of research on the matter and consider making the change myself.
I eat fish and poultry, but not red meat. I do not consider myself a vegetarian at all!Why is everyone who doesn't eat a lot of meat wanting the title of vegetarian?
Agreed. Why did you resume eating meat? I'm just curious.
people like labels, whether they are giving them to others, or wearing their beliefs on their sleeves. why do you think people have all of those gawdy stickers on their cars? Why is everyone who doesn't eat a lot of meat wanting the title of vegetarian?
its beacause most people dont want to be inbetween, and not fit in with either. Since they dont have the willpower, or whatever, to be compleatly a vegetarian, they call themselfs it to be in a group. nothing is wrong with this though, people want to belong.
It may because they don't consider chicken and fish meat..which we know it is because meat is flesh and animals (like humans) have flesh.

For some..it may be because they are trying to get into the SSVE (Secret Society of Vegetarian Elitists) because we are the coolest people to hang out with : )
I agree with you completely! I have no idea why people who eat meat only “sometimes” consider themselves vegetarians, oh excuse me “flexitarians.” Are people really that desperate to give themselves a title/label? I say eat what you want, but if that includes meat (whether it’s fish, chicken, ect.), don’t call it vegetarianism.
Kitkat is right. To join the SSVE. I eat meat (rarely) but I have managed to sneak in anyway.
really! 100% agreed it is all about a mark i guess and ppl are getting off the meaning of it in my opinion. I say tell them all to visit peat2's web site and search around see for themselves what is really going on.... it just does not make sence to me.... not one bit!
nope... Eats animals = not vegetarian.
the people that call themselves vegetarians/vegans are higher than the people that acutally are vegans/veg....that is rediculous and gives veg/vegans a bad name.

and im sick of all those sub deffinitions
its a good question - no doubt.

Some people need labels, some think it reduces thier meat-eating guilt, some think its trendy, some don't know what it means, some what to be associated with something percieved as being "good" ( by them or thier friends perhaps )

Personally, i say i'm a vegetarian because it describes my diet choice which i made for moral reasons.

The "flexi/demi/semi/partial/pesci" corruptions are part of the same issue.

Only those achieving higher morality are allowed into SSVE
someone who only eats fish is a piscovorian (i spelled it wrong... sorry) which is a type of vegetarian. and people who eat most animal products except red meat are still vegetarians (although not strict ones) next time do some research before you make yourself look dumb. i am a lacto vegan which means dairy products only, and then there is ovo lacto vegan. they eat eggs and dairy.
I resent you patronizing vegetarians making up definitions. I am free to call myself a vegetarian because I eat vegetables daily. I only eat meat 364 days of the year.
I guess because that is their direction. Away from the meat centered diet. The people who make absolute abstinence from eating meat an imperative are in my opinion neurotics. Also, does eating noodles for a week make someone a vegetarian?
you ARE a vegetarian.. a FLEXItarian.
