I want to be a vegetarian and for the most part, I consider myself one. But a few times in the last month, I 'relapsed" and ate a little meat. Should I say, "I'm a wanna be vegetarian" or "I'm working on being one."? or should i just stop worrying about it?Can I still call myself a vegetarian even tho I relapsed?
You are a vegetarian. No apologies needed.
Why do you even have to mention you relapsed?
If you're invited out to dinner at someone's house, and you don't want to just throw the towel in on being a vegetarian, just say "I'm a vegetarian".
Try some meat alternatives so you don't continually relapse every now and again. I haven't tried them personally (a veggie burger just makes me think too much of a real burger, which makes me feel ill), but many people enjoy them. So, if one of your relapses was a meat burger, try and replace those cravings with a veggie burger.
SO many alternatives out there!!! It's pretty amazing, actually. Can I still call myself a vegetarian even tho I relapsed?
eh i guess it's whatever you feel comfortable with..
but seriously, if you want to eat meat, then just do it.
if you want to be a vegetarian, then BE one and don't eat meat.
you can't be both.
it's called "will power" and apparently you are lacking quite a bit of it.
you remind me of my friend. she says she's vegetarian then five minutes later she's eating a hot dog. it really pisses me off.
so just don't call yourself vegetarian, cuz you're not.
If your honest intent and commitment is to being a vegetarian and the slips were actual "Oh, crud, I took a bite of this before I realized it had meat in it" slips, then sure, say you're a vegetarian. However, if you plan to continue to "relapse" and the slips were "Well, I usually don't eat meat, but this pepperoni pizza looks really really good so I'm going to eat it anyway" slips, then I'd stick with "trying to be vegetarian" or "working on becoming vegetarian," as it is more honest.
Your honest intention is what is important here. If you've been slipping consistently since you made the shift, or if the slips are consistently ones that you make knowingly, I'd say that you're not really a vegetarian and are not actually trying to become one. (Maybe you're a flexitarian?) If, however, you really, truly, honestly want to be a vegetarian and the slips really were eating meat without knowing it, then I'd say that in your heart and mind, you really are a vegetarian. I mean, you only do what you can with the information you have. If someone tells you that they got a vegetarian dish for you and you realize halfway through that it's got dashi in it, that's not really your fault.
I personally believe that it is important to be honest not just for personal integrity, but also for the sake of others. For many people, being vegetarian is really important to them. They want to be able to state that they are a vegetarian and have it be understood. While this isn't too common in my neck of the woods, in other parts of the country and world, people will try to give you fish or chicken if you say that you're a vegetarian. As someone who doesn't eat animals, that doesn't jive. If you are planning to eat meat, don't tell the people present that you are a vegetarian. Stick to "trying to be vegetarian" or "transitioning to vegetarian." If, however, you are actually going to be eating vegetarian in their presence, go ahead and say that you are a vegetarian. Can I still call myself a vegetarian even tho I relapsed?
don't be a food nazi. (not that you are!) So you fell off the horse, just get back on. But you have to honestly ask yourself if you think it's wise to ignore your body's cravings. Some people call themselves a vegetarian but they eat pizza, drink soda, do drugs and smoke! Which is probably worse than a piece of grass fed, naturally raised beef. Also, if you are suffering with depression or mood swings, then you need to have good quality meat. You only need 2 - 3 ounces a day of high quality, grass fed stuff (low heat cooked, aka steamed). Your bones will get stronger, your hair fuller, and your teeth whiter. Also, if you have any soft spots in your teeth (which lots of vegetarians and vegans have) thats a sign that things are missing. When I started eating meat again (I was an moody, super strict Vegan who bashed people who ate meat) my teeth began to heal. No more sensitivity when having a cool glass of water! Good luck and read some of the sources I've provided so you can make an informed decision regarding your diet.
You gotta ignore your cravings. I know it gets hard but you gotta. I see things I used to like but I ignore them. I may read the ingredients but I don't eat it. Thats the difference between me and you. You could ignore them easily if you really wanted to.
I don't understand why you would force yourself to become vegetarian when you obviously enjoy meat. It's not like a drug that will harm you, it's FOOD. You need to educate yourself and stop being ignorant about where your food comes from and feel comfortable eating it. It's dead anyways, why waste it? Caveman's hunted, nobody was Vegetarian back then!
just say that you are a vegetarian most of the time, and stop worrying about.
