I have been a vegan for about ten years, but I am considering eating fish and eggs again because I have been craving them lately.Has anyone been a vegetarian or vegan for a period of time and gone back to eating meat? How did you feel?
I haven't gone back to eating meat, so I can't give you perspective there.
But if your body is craving something, then there is likely a nutrient in that food that you're lacking in.
What is this nutrient? Well, my guess would be protein, B-vitamins, or Phosphorus. Or you could need something else. Look at this link and see where fish and eggs fall under and just get the veggies in that category:

So the thing you need to do is find other foods that fulfill that need and you should be fine. Also read up/watch videos on the reasons why you went vegan to strengthen your resolve.
And honestly.... I'm going to get thumbs down for this, but **if** trying other foods doesn't work, then I would consider finding free-range organic local eggs (preferably visit the farm and see their living conditions).
But I'm a vegetarian, so I'm more open to the idea of eggs. I'm not trying to corrupt you, I have a lot of respect for the vegan diet. But I don't think you should be horribly miserable over eggs either.
I was a vegetarian for 3 years. When I first became a vegetarian, my reason was that I "love animals too much to eat them." I also didn't (and still don't) agree with factory farms. After reading "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver, my mind was changed. You should definitely read it. Now I only eat sustainably grown and raised meat. When I started eating meat again I was fine. I believe it was because I was getting enough sources of protein and because the meat (chicken was my first meal) was much healthier than conventionally raised chicken. I still don't eat a lot of meat. I guess it depends on the circumstances of each person. However, just because you are craving a food (I know how the cravings are!) you shouldn't change your mind. What was the reason you decided to become vegan in the first place? If you do decide to switch back, be sure to find sustainably raised fish and eggs from chickens that are raised sustainably.Has anyone been a vegetarian or vegan for a period of time and gone back to eating meat? I don't know if I count, but, I was a vegetarian for 5 months. I lost some weight and felt weak and fatigued all the time. And I don't eat many dairy products anyway. I just wasn't feeling good so I went back to eating meat and felt SO much better. I mean, I don't really eat beef or pork anyway, but I eat a lot of chicken, turkey, and fish.
When your body needs something, it will let you know. So your body probably needs these things. Like, women crave chocolate before, during, and sometimes after menstruation. This is because chocolate is full of iron, and during menstruation, that is what we need: iron.
Since you're vegan, you might not be getting enough protein. And fish %26amp; eggs are both VERY high in protein. Listen to your body! When it needs something, give it to it!
I know someone who was a vegetarian for 3 years then "went back" to eating meat.. She started out with small amounts of fish and poultry.. baked or grilled mostly.. then gradually increased her intake and variety to include beef (won't eat pork).. she still does not eat a lot of meat, maybe 3-5x a week, mostly fish, but she drinks non fat milk almost everyday and eats low fat yogurt and cheese every now and then.. She has poached eggs with toast when she craves them (just like you) about once a week.. She did not experience any adverse reactions aside from a bum stomach for a couple of days. and she was not even sure if eating meat caused it or something else
Whatever you decide on, make sure it's what you want to do and not because other people told you it's what you should do..Because seeing some answers, some people just can't help preaching I guessHas anyone been a vegetarian or vegan for a period of time and gone back to eating meat? My friend was talking about a girl she knew who was vegetarian since birth, and threw up when she went back to eating meat.
I say get a cookbook though, and get more variety in your diet and maybe you will stop craving it as much. :)
You'd give up ten years' sobriety because of a craving?!
You've gone this long without it!
Seaweed is good and it tastes like fish.
I hate eggs.
yes, i have been a vegetarian for 5 months, i know it's very less time but i got back to eating meat bcoz being a vegetarian was boring, there were no varieties, and i always felt weak and craved for more, plus u always want more when it's cold, and only meat can help. it seemed like HEAVEN when i got back eating meat! U have lot more choice and u'll feel great. but ten years is a long time, i don't think u should start with fish.. eggs maybe ok! i started with chicken bcoz that's what i like and it was soooo gud. =D
