I am 14 and love animals. I have been thinking of becoming a vegetarian for a few months now but ever once in awhile I catch myself eating meat. :(
I don't eat breakfast and my school serves vegetarian lunches, so how can I top eating meat at dinner time?
And I heard somewhere that fish and poultry aren't considered meat, but should vegetarians still avoid them? How can I become a vegetarian?
Meat is the flesh of an animal. Fish and poultry are animals.
Vegetarians do not eat fish or poultry.
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has a Vegetarian Starter Kit which should be helpful-

I am vegetarian and dont consider fish and poultry in veg food. How can I become a vegetarian?
The only way to become a vegetarian is to stop eating meat. If you can't stop eating meat then you have a problem!
I cannot believe someone would consider eating chicken because it may not be meat. That would astonish me.
'Meat' is animal flesh. Poultry is chicken flesh and Fish is also flesh, therefore they're both meat. Vegetarians don't eat meat. Becoming a vegetarian isn't hard at all. You should eat breakfast, at least some fruit or cereal to eat on the way to school. At least you can get vegetarian lunches at school, and at dinner time just eat something without meat. Its not that hard. Most times you could probably eat whatever your family is eating, minus the meat. How can I become a vegetarian?
To your last question...
From the wiki: "The word meat is also used by the meat packing and butchering industry in a more restrictive sense鈥攖he flesh of mammalian species (pigs, cattle, etc.) raised and prepared for human consumption, to the exclusion of fish, poultry, and eggs"
So there are situations in which "meat," as a technical term, doesn't include fish and poultry. I also know of people who consider poultry to be meat, as well, but not fish.
This doesn't really matter to the question of whether or not you should eat them, though. That's up to you鈥攏ot up to a word, especially one with lots of different uses and definitions. If you can't stand the thought of chickens being slaughtered, or if you are convinced animal protein is unhealthy, then you'll probably decide to avoid eating chicken. Or maybe you decide to eat fish for a while, while transitioning to a stricter form of vegetarianism. Or whatever. It's not a club, and you should follow your own rules for your own reasons.
I would recommend to start cooking some basic dinner recipes for vegetarian. You can start with pizza. Buy a basic pizza dough from market. Your favorite cheese, your favorite veggie toppings. Make it when ever your get hungry. You can also look for veggie recipes which you can prepare and freeze. You can cook them when you get hungry. Once you get good at cooking then you can look into advanced recipes.
You are correct Vegetarian don't eat chicken or fish.

1/4 cup chopped fresh coriander
2 cups Monterey Jack cheese, grated
1 cup sour cream
Directions
Heat oil in large skillet. Add the onion and saute for 5 minutes. Add cumin seed, oregano, paprika, cayenne, and chili powder. Saute 5 minutes more.
Add the tomatoes, garlic, and jalapeno pepper. Simmer 15 minutes. Put all ingredients in a 5-quart crock pot.
Add black beans, bay leaf and 3 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low heat until beans are very soft.
Add more water to keep beans covered.
Before serving, stir in coriander. Divide grated cheese among serving bowls. Ladle chili over cheese and top with sour cream.
*****Then, if you like it, you can look up other foods like it, keep going, and you will be a vegetarian! :)
My entire family is full of devout vegetarians. Most of us don't consider pork and/or bacon a meat so you could eat those for dinner
if you are strick vegatarian u wouldnt eant any of that some people dont eat nuts nor eggs. I have been vegararin for four years now
Since you are 14, I assume your parents or someone else buys the food. So you'll first need to talk to them and discuss your decision with them. Getting them to support you is task one.
Second, someone else stated this already but I'll say it again: It's a good idea for *anyone* to eat breakfast. It is very good for you. Most important meal of the day, and too many people skip out on it.
At dinner, again, it's up to your parents or whomever buys the food. There are meat substitutes made of soy that will get you your protein and taste a lot better than animals.
Some people consider themselves vegetarians and still eat some animals, but they are not really vegetarians, because that is the whole point of being a vegetarian. Vegetarians don't eat any slaughter by-products, which is any type of animal, any part of their body.
You'll also have to look out for food that uses animal ingredients. Soups with chicken broth is a good example. Gelatin (collagen) is probably the main one you'll see in food, it comes in gummy candies, most yogurt, marshmallows, sour cream, etc.
Generally, never eat a food without looking at the ingredients first.
Don't get that mixed up with animal by-products though, which are things that are produced while the animal is still alive (Honey, eggs, animal milk). This is what vegans refrain from in addition to animal parts. These are not coming from dead animals. They are "safe" for vegetarians.
Hope this was helpful, good luck!
