I grew up eating meat, constantly. Lately I've been noticing that meat isn't tasting that great to me anymore, and was considering about going vegetarian. I was wondering how to go about it? Do I just abruptly stop eating meat or is there a way to ween myself off of it? How do you stop the meat cravings? What kinds of foods should I eat for my first week of being a vegetarian?
thanks for you time! How should I start being vegetarian?
Don't give up on meat. Try eating more chicken and fish instead. I myself, barely eat beef nowadays, although adding lots of vegetables to your diet can be beneficial. There is no need to be an extreme vegan, there are plenty of lean meats like chicken that you can still eat.
You should definitely start cutting down one meat at a time. When I became vegetarian, I started by not eating beef and then gradually I stopped eating all types of meats. There is a brand of soy meat called Morning Star I believe and the food is actually really good but it still feels like you're eating meat so you don't start craving it. Just remember not to eat a whole bunch of junk food because thats what most people do when they don't know what else to eat. Make sure you get a lot of fruits and vegetables in your diet and eat peanut butter a lot to make sure you stay healthy. How should I start being vegetarian?
Congratulations on thinking about turning vegetarian. Mushroom and beans are a great source of protein and substitutes for meat and depending on the meat can provide more protein. First thing you can do is cut the red meat imediately. It has very little value and does more damage than good. you can eat fish and poultry only and this will get you started. Eat whole grains, raw fruits and vegetables and cut out the milk if you drink it and substitute soy milk if needed. Especially cow's milk is not meant for human consumption. Cheese is fine though. Just a few tips that I follow.
I started just eating nuts and dried fruit for lunch. I had no intention of becoming a vegetarian, but that is how it started. Then after a week, I ate the nuts and fruit for dinner, too. For me, there were no cravings. The salt in the nuts and the natural sugar in the dried fruit allowed me to just stay with the mix. I have been on this diet of fruit and nuts now for 2 1/2 years and never get hungary because I always eat some whenever the urge strikes, all day and evening long. I have lost 35 pounds and have a lot more energy! If I go out to eat with family, I just have salmon or shrimp. My doctor told me I have never been more healthy...good luck with yours! How should I start being vegetarian?
When I became a vegetarian, I just stopped eating meat. Just like that. After a while you wont crave it at all, and it's a lot easier than people say it is. If you don't want to do it like that, I recommend eating a lot of fish or chicken at first, and then you can stop. Make sure you eat a lot of protein! Whether it be in beans, fake-meat products, protein shakes, etc. If you don't, you'll get sick.
Don't make it a big deal. Don't do a "Grand Opening of vegetarian me". That's a big mistake.
Just do your usual weekly menu, and when it comes to a meaty menu just skip it. Or replace that menu with something else. After a year or so, you'll notice how easy it was.
Your mind is the greatest obstacle. If you can pass it, you can become a great vegetarian with no cravings and no sorrows.
Oh, and cook your own food. Don't go to restaurant. Restaurants are like sirens. Their menus try so hard to break your promise. It is hard to resist.
Instead of read meats, pork, beef, etc. try eating fish and chicken. Also meat provides protein so make sure you are getting another source of protein, from some thing like vitamins. Every one is different so try out weening your self off the meat or just quite. There are plenty of good food that are made for vegetarians. Try products made by morning star, or that is what I think it is, they have meatless sausage, hamburgers, lasagna and alot of other things, you can get these at Wal-mart.
Good luck :)

Do lots of research and then become a flexatarian. Then transfer to a vegetarian. That's what I did. And now I can't stand the smell of meat. I love being a vegetarian. I sugget you do too. Plus, I feel less sluggish and much healthier.
i know that tofu and beans are great sources of protien if ur not eating meat. every day, eat a little less meat than u usually do. you should eat tons of fruits and veggies, tofu, beans, nuts, pasta, no junk food, that is the healthiest
Just keep in mind that meat detox might be hard - http://vegetarianculinary.co.cc/vegan-ra鈥?/a>
First off start off for a few weeks not eating Chicken Pig or Turkey, then stop eating beef slowly but surely but to make sure of your decision watch a few PETA videos and your good to go!
gradually cut meat out of your diet. stop eating chicken then cut red meat out of your diet and then the rest of the meat. you should really take b 12 vitamins though so you dont miss out on protein.
maybe just stop with red meat for now and just eat chicken and fish.. then slowly stop eating those.
thats what i did.
ive been a veg for a little over 3 years! :)
I think the best way to start is to just dive right in. Maybe eat things you normally eat, just without meat...pizza for example.
you could start eating a little less each day or each week and finally stop completely.
