I'm ready to make the transition from being vegetarian to vegan?

I have been a vegetarian for two years now. During that time i have educated myself by reading many vegan how to books and many vegan recipe cook books. I have attempted to become vegan but in the end i always failed. I believe it was because i was still living at home with my parents and attending high school. Now, I am living in my own apartment and starting my first year of college, how can i transition from being vegetarian to being a vegan. I have read all the books and seen all the websites I just want to hear some advice from people who have accomplished this goal. Any advice and information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.I'm ready to make the transition from being vegetarian to vegan?
prior to becoming vegan, i questioned, "would i be able to give up eggs? of course, i make scrambled eggs sometimes, but that's it. i can manage!" then i asked, "would i be able to give up milk? heck yes! we don't even drink milk anymore. we only drink soy, rice, or almond milk." finally, i asked, "would i be able to give up cheese?"

now, this was a toughie. we were a quesadilla-lovin', put-cheese-on-top-of-everything kind of family. if we had to omit all animal products but could only keep one, cheese would be the victor. but then i re-evaluated my reasons for becoming a vegetarian in the first place: health, environment, and animal. this stuff was not healthy... it tasted darn good, but definitely not good for the body. it seemed a bit hypocritical also. the cheese was being obtained from the same animals that were going to be butchered later on. it was being obtained from the very animals that i wanted to live a free life. if i continue to eat cheese, i would be supporting this industry in some way. so i gave it up.

almost 3 months later, we are still going strong. i honestly, truly believe there is NOTHING that will make us start eating dairy or egg products again. tempt me with the most delicious, scrumptuous-looking chocolate cake, and i will still politely decline it (i get this all the time from work anyway; i work in a grocery store!) there are bigger, more important things than enjoying those miniscule 10 seconds.

congrats on moving out and starting college, btw. i hope the transition goes well for you!!

best wishes! :)
thanks! good luck in college and may your vegan lifestyle bring you health and prosperity! :)

I have been vegan for over two years but I just started being vegan I never really had a transition just one day I was just thinking about the cruelty that the animals face and I just decided to stop eating any animal byproducts. I had tried previously at vegetarianism many times but failed. I wasn't aware of all of the alternative options available like fake meat and dairy- which is yummy if you haven't tried the dairy or cheese, i like almond milk over soy although Presidents Choice low fat soy milk is really good. All you have to do to make your transition is to do it slowly if you think you'll stick with it longer or just start today. Either way you should go to the grocery store and buy some vegan options which are available at all major grocery stores and just slowly incorporate them into your daily meals or just quit completely, either way good for you for wanting to. I hope it works out for you, Good Luck!
Carry around a snack with you. You'll find its harder to eat out sometimes and by just carrying something around it will be easier. also start with taking out eggs and then moving on to dairy. Slowly make your way to not eating bread or prepared food with animal products. That was the hardest part i found.

oh and in most tasty breads like banana bread you can substitute the milk for soy milk and eggs for apple sauce. :) good luck!I'm ready to make the transition from being vegetarian to vegan?
Animals were put on the earth for food.

Seriously. Producers (plants) are eaten by insects. Insects are eaten by rodents, rodents are eaten by small animals, then their eaten by larger animals, then humans eat the larger animals. Its the circle of life.
