tell them that you feel a lot healthier since you stopped eating meat and that you're not going to change so they should just accept you for who you are.
my family was the same way. My dad jokes with me asking me if I am going to eat chicken or beef... etc, and he says it in a way that makes me feel that he is saying that it is our "right" as humans to eat meat. It drives me CRAZY!! He is big too.
I feel much more healthy too!!! I talked to my doctor about it when I made the change a year ago. He suggested peanut butter, nuts, beans and vitamins. Try morning star products!! They are 100% meat free. I enjoy the chicken patties, chedder burgers, and ground beef (for tacos) and the corn dogs.
You should make a vegetarian meal for your parents a veggie taco meal with the fake beef would be great I even make lasagna with it. They will see how good it tastes and it is just about fat free.
I would rather be a little thin and eat healthy than be a fat pig who eats animal flesh to get "protein".
Hope your parents will keep their mouths shut... and since they arent healthy i wouldnt let it bother you.
sorry about all the spelling errors!!!I've been a vegetarian for a few months, and my parents are really giving me a hard time, any suggestions?
don't let them change you. if it's your opinion it is your choice and should not change because your parents disagree. they may be jealous of your lifestyle as sad as that is since they know they can't do it. tell them that it's your life and you can do what you want to do. i am not a vegetarian myself but i don't eat much meat and i am all for the vegetarian lifestyle =)
They are telling you What they "Know". Remember most people born in the 40's %26amp; 50's have been PRed into the whole Protien Myth. It's been going on since they were children. Try some self education %26amp; sharing what you learn with them. Be gentle, be respectful. The bottom line they feel you may be endangering your health. Since the opposite is true, try if all else fails reminding them they are not being respectful of your adult decisions may be needed.

This is a super article by Dr. John McDougall on Veggie Sources of protien. He has a great FREE newsletter %26amp; wonderful achives on all kinds of Vegan Health issues.
Slaint茅 (to your health)I've been a vegetarian for a few months, and my parents are really giving me a hard time, any suggestions?
Either ignore them and move on, or if it gets really out of hand, get them to talk to your doctor about it. They will listen to him more than to you.
Tell them to look in a mirror and until they are healthy can they criticize you
you should not care what they say. u r healthy and if love being a veg, well they shouldn't tell u anything else. just make sure to eat lots of protein(beans and nuts) and u will be perfect.
P.S. if ur parents r overweight, they will see anyone will a normal weight as thin
Don't take it seriously
If you're 19 I hope you don't live with them. Ignore them.
You could dig out some honest medical research and dietary information from the government. Talk it over with your mom. To be honest with you the high reliance on soy products is not good. Soybeans have compounds that mimic female hormones like estrogen. If your family, through your mother, likes a recipe enough to try it as a side dish they might lighten up a bit on you.
Just remember that they likely grew up when the Macrobiotic craze was going on and a lot of people made themselves sick from it. (heart damage and vision diseases)
I recommend avoiding the idea of fake meats, because they are simply fake tasting. Also the treatments to give them the fake meat flavour introduce chemicals that are just as bad for you as the meat would be.
They get over it. My mother was the exact same way. But my family finally came around and i introduced them to Boca products. My sister really liked it. But the irony is, I became allergic to large amounts of soy. I was a ova lacto vegetarian. Eggs, dairy and soy was all I ate for a year. Good Luck . I hope you make it a lifestyle.
As you said your 19. Move out do what you want who cares what they say. Fight the power! Fight it.
.just listen to them.its up to u to take notice of any suggestion.
