I've never had to bring a dish to pass to a party, and I'm pretty new to being a vegetarian. I'm not gonna have a lot of time tomorrow to prepare it, but something for a slow cooker would be fine. And how much should I make? Please include a recipe, maybe something tried and true? (:What vegetarian dish should I bring to a New Year's Eve party?
How about a 4 cheese Pasta Florentine?....here's the link...and then I will add the modifications to this recipe%26gt;%26gt;http://www.kraftrecipes.com/recipes/four鈥?/a>
Note....use fresh baby spinach instead, sautee with olive oil, garlic, onion, salt and pepper while the pasta is cooking..... use twice the cream cheese (use 1/3 less fat) and omit the egg. ... also use some of the pasta water to loosen the sauce a little so it's not too "dry". Finally, I top it with good quality Parmaggiano Reggiano Cheese.
(The spices added help to make this dish not so "bland").
Or I was going to suggest stuffed mushrooms (which can be made with anything you want)...and they look great sitting in those little scooped-out slots in a deviled egg tray (my little g-daughter came up with that idea ;). Those plastic dishes can be bought at a party store.

I would do a festive and pretty, seasoned rice dish with nuts and veggies. Probably crock pot friendly. Start with a skillet, some olive oil or butter, fav seasonings (how about ginger, garlic, onion?) and add rice to coat. Stir in some sliced almonds or chopped pecans, sautee for a minute or so then move it all to your slow cooker or soup pot. Then add double plus a little more of vegetable stock. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer and let it cook until everything is heated through. Add veggies when needed due to their cooking times. If you want to keep things nice and easy you can buy a frozen mixed veggie blend, or some peas and carrots, and add at the last minute.
Garnish with some toasted almonds, sliced scallions, drizzle of oil...whatever's clever!
Save yourself some time.
Cook some brown rice tonight - use tomato juice as part of the liquid - and while it's still warm, pour a nice flavoury dressing over it (olive oil, soya sauce, sherry for example) and mix in well.
Then tomorrow, chop a lot of colourful veggies up small, and fold them in very thoroughly. Taste the rice as you go along, and be sure it's seasoned enough - nothing more bluh than dull rice. Black pepper, some lemon juice, Worcester sauce - just keep mixing till it tastes good, then add a tiny bit more soya sauce, give it a last mix, then cover with clingfilm and you're done. What vegetarian dish should I bring to a New Year's Eve party?
"Arroz con Gandules" (rice with pigeon peas) - The recipe is attached below. You can make it without the ham. This is great Puerto Rican dish... You'll be the hit of the party with this one I'm sure.
carrot, spinach, potato, cauliflower, cabbage,
hummus and baby carrots , celery sticks.crackers and chips to dip. good and easy too.
