Why is it that almost every time I order a vegetarian dish from an Asian restaurant, I find meat in it?

I eat out a lot and this happens way too often. It's usually just a chunk or two, but it's enough that it really bothers me.

Does this happen to anyone else? Why is it that almost every time I order a vegetarian dish from an Asian restaurant, I find meat in it?
That happened to me a lot in the past, too. It seems that some restaurants assume that just because their dish is made mainly from vegetables, it's vegetarian.

What I do now is to go only to purely vegetarian restaurants or Indian restaurants serving vegetarian dishes. Check out the list of these restaurants in your area on VegDining.com. It has been really helpful to me.

Good luck!

I'm allergic to shrimp and it never fails that they always include shrimp even though I tell them I can't have it...
Maybe try a pure Indian restaurant (typically because of the pure vegetarians who also do not eat egg, and Jains) - when their food says non-veg, it will be guaranteed to have no meat in it.Why is it that almost every time I order a vegetarian dish from an Asian restaurant, I find meat in it?
Meat is good for you! Fish has Omega 3 which is VERY healthy. Don't be scared! Just eat the good meats!
You are going to some crappy restaurants.

Seriously, if they have entrees under the "vegetarian" section that can't get out of the kitchen without a few pieces of meat falling in, they are a crappy restaurant. Go somewhere else.
I think it's cause they cook the vegetarian and meat dishes in the same wok, instead of using separate cookware.

If you are a strict vegetarian you probably want to stick with places that are solely vegetarian.

I have food allergies and even when I explain in advance more often than not I'll find peanuts or shrimp in my dish. Some just don't understand how serious reactions can be. One guy told me oh you're not allergic, you just don't like shrimp!!
It's never happened to me. I don't know where you live, or where you're eating, but this should not be acceptable. Before you order, let your waitperson KNOW that you are vegetarian and DO NOT WANT meat in your dish. Also ask if the sauces contain meat. If they do, order something without that sauce.

Every Asian restaurant I've been to, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and even Thai that have a vegetarian menu stick to that........vegetarian.

Maybe you need to find another place to eat.
You keep forgetting to tell them to hold the meat. Not yours, the meat in the food. Dang, I just said meat again. hee hee
They probably don't have good facility practices so your food touches other dishes a lot.
