I've been a vegetarian for a long time but kept forgetting about the rennet thing. I've recently given up cheese unless it contains rennet and now I am getting annoyed because some restaurants are labeling dishes as vegetarian even though they contain cheese which contains rennet.Does it irritate you when a restaurant labels something as vegetarian when it contains rennet?
I've went to a restaurant that labeled a dish as "vegetarian" even though it contained chicken. The manager explained to me that the company didn't consider chicken as a meat, since it's only a bird. -_-Does it irritate you when a restaurant labels something as vegetarian when it contains rennet?
Oh my. You know, I tell myself that most cheeses are rennet-free (I know, I know). :( I can't believe a previous poster saw a veg menu item with chicken in it! Wow! I was at a Mex restaurant and they asked if I wanted the chicken-broth-based rice in my vegetariant burrito. After I made a point to say that the rice is NOT veg, she asked if I wanted the refried lard beans or whole beans in the burrito...sigh... I really don't think veg vs non-veg is such a difficult concept.Does it irritate you when a restaurant labels something as vegetarian when it contains rennet?
Yeah, it frustrates me too. I spend ages buying rennet-free cheese and then I buy a vegetarian lasagne that is made of animal rennet. It's annoying. I may as well get meat lasagne! Yuck.
Once at a restaurant I ate a mouthful of lobster in a 'vegetarian risotto'. :S
YES. kill the cooks.
