What keeps you motivated to be vegetarian/vegan?

I've tried vegetarianism a few times but the outside world is so not vegetarian friendly that I couldn't keep being veg. So, what keeps you motivated? What keeps you motivated to be vegetarian/vegan?
Ethical reasons. After seeing what happens to animals (in the movie Earthlings especially), I just couldn't look at food the same. Meat was not a bit appetizing to me.
The way animals are treated and slaughtered. If your goal is to go as far as becoming a full blown vegan, start off with vegetarianism first. You need to get used to cutting animal products out slowly, so it can't really happen overnight. Give yourself some time and do research on how to get proper nutrition on eating just plant-based foods. You can get all your nutrition from plants, and I think it's funny how many "omnivores" come in here and say "You need meat to for nutrition". No, you really don't. If makes me wonder if these people just live off of meat most of the time, since they talk down vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains, and legumes "not having nutrition".

I also tend to just think of what the meat looks like in the form of an animal. It's good for keeping you away from real leather, fur, snake skin, and ivory as well. Those are from slaughtered animals.

I can't eat meat and never really could put it down without gagging. All the bones, vains, random dark spots, weird chewy things, etc. What keeps you motivated to be vegetarian/vegan?
First off, Health reasons answered above. If anything it is unhealthy to not have the benefits of meat.

And being a vegetarian for some people is because of the way they feel about eating animals. Even know we are at the top of the food chain and animals eat other animals. And we are animals.. -.-'

That keeps them motivated, that they can't eat it and they really don't want too.

Other people that do this to lose weight etc, It's like motivation for any diet. If you want it that bad you should be able to stay motivated. It's like not eating junk food. If you eat veg for a while you'll get used to it and not crave meat. Just like junk food.

Your body can get used to anything.

If you honestly think it's wrong to eat meat and your having problems doing so, you mustn't care too much. Not sure I understand this question and why you wound ask it, seems pointless.
The health benefits, but its the new things and versatile ways you can make meals without having to pull out that extra buck for meat ( UGH! ). It's a lifestyle a commitment to the way you live, I fee motivated that I am doing something to ensure that my health is maintained, I am much more confident and disciplined.

I am not saying that those who engage in eating meat don't get the same lifestyle or benefits.

It's just the manor of how its taken care of these days. I just prefer this way. What keeps you motivated to be vegetarian/vegan?
To be quite honest I really don't understand how people can have trouble being Vegetarian - it's extremely easy. Veganism, on the other hand, needs more consideration daily - but, after a time, isn't really that difficult either (nowadays anyway).

I think once you have lived the lifestyle change for a time it just becomes the norm.

I wouldn't agree that the outside world isn't vegetarian friendly, you really just have to go back to how Grandma used to cook 40 years ago - from scratch, without relying on ready made tv dinners!

:)
well look. I've been a vegetarian for over a year and a half now and i'm only 14. I have to cook my own meals because my family eats meat (and i cant cook, so its difficult) BUT i'm still a vegetarian. why? because the things people do to the animals is inhumane and disgusting. Because meat raises chances in cancer and diseases. Because meat tastes gross. Because we all know deep down that vegetarianism is the right thing to do. It's a protest for those who can't speak. Isn't that enough motivation, just knowing that? You can do it, it's possible. Stuff the people who are anti-vegetarian, they are just supporting something that is beyond belief. Please reconsider vegetarianism, its the right thing to do. Good luck, YOU can do it. Anyone can, its possible.
Reading the book Eating Animals was the beginning of it all for me and watching Earthlings cemented it for me. Sometimes I do feel like eating meat and I just watch about thirty seconds of Earthlings on youtube. I spent my first thirty years eating meat so I was addicted to it and do miss it sometimes but thinking about the pain on the other end is enough to keep me going.
I've been veg for over 30 years and have never really encountered problems from the "outside world". But then, I don't go looking for such problems. It's easy for me to stay motivated - 1. never liked the taste of meat, 2. animal treatment is getting worse not better, 3. environmental reasons keep stacking up.
My motivation:

Went from a size 14 to an 8 in less than a year.

Meat is gross, diseased, smells bad, tastes worse and I could never go back to eating it after learning the truth.

Milk is just as bad.

In the beginning, before I found my cooking groove and when meat wasn't quite as gross to me as it is now, I would watch slaughter videos and read veg interviews to keep on the right track. After a while, meat looked like toy food to me and then it had eyeballs.
All of the above agree with health benefit, and I too agree with them. But though we are conscious about our health, but sometime we can't control ourselves to eat junk and unhealthy foods. And I think your question is at that point. So I want to say you one more thing with the above, that is to increase your will power. Promise yourself not to have non-veg foods. And you may acquire that power by avoiding non-veg. So,grow up your will power, I think you can do it....
The people i know who are vegetarians either love animals 'too' much,

or they are affected by deeper issues.

Not just so much that they just want to Try.

I believe this must be Hard.

Im a meat eater myself, and what tastes better than meat?
there are many vitamins in vegetables, when you don't want to eat,you should think it's good for your health and your skin, then you will eat them.and then you will like them.i like eating vegetarian very much.
I think of the animals, and how they're treated when they die.

That. Right there. That keeps me motivated.
I think, you must not look that place where we find roast and other food which make from meat you should make strong your inner-self it is the best way to be vegetarian.
Seeing rescues of farm animals done by groups like Mercy for animals and the ALF.
I don't need motivation at all...

I've been one since five, so even the thought of my tongue touching meat is a bit repulsive.
the Health benefits for sure. =]
Whenever I eat meat, or even look at it , I see what animal it originally was before they killed it to make the meat..
morals/guilt/respect for the planet and animals and my body
animals i mean i am animal lover
