How do I become a vegetarian?

For the past few years, I've had a personal conviction about eating meat. I feel bad about how animals are killed and also physically I've just been feeling weighed down. I find myself getting vulnerable at times and just raiding the fridge and grabbing that hamburger again, then feeling guilty. I don't want to feel like I'll be "missing out" by going vegetarian. Any tips on how to transition? How do I become a vegetarian?
Ha! I had the same problem. I felt bad even as a youngster. It took me about two years of being on and off, until I finally just forgot about meat. Here's a great thing about modern technology: FAKE MEAT! Most wal-Marts have it, Sprouts, Sunflower, HEB, (i dont know where you live.) Check the freezer section. There are a lot of brands now, but they should have Morning Star Farms, or Boca. They sell chicken patties, burgers, turkey, even bacon! Thats what helped me ween off of the slaughter. Ive been a vegetarian for three years now, and eventually, meat grosses you out and you never want to eat it again. I wish you lots of luck and determination!
I'm a vegetarian, and have been for a few years. I had to try a few times, I loved steak and escargo, but finally I was able to do it.

I'm also doing it for the animals, and because I felt guilty. I love animals.

I hate tofu.

There are tons of meat substitutes, and really good vegetarian recipes.

Morning star has a lot of good things, like chicken.

The best veggie burgers (in my opinion) are Gardenburger brand.

Almost all restaurants will have vegetarian choices on the menu, too.How do I become a vegetarian?
Hi! Congrats on taking the first steps! Have you tried any of the meat substitutes out there? You definitely have to experiment because some are definitely better than others. Some of my favorite brands are: Quorn (especially their "turkey" roast and breaded gruyere"chicken"), Lightlife (especially Smart Grounds (beef-style grounds) and "turkey" slices and "chicken" strips). If find yourself giving in for burgers, try Boca-burgers - they're the closest tasting to beef that I've found. I actually don't like them as much anymore because they taste a little TOO meaty!

There are also a lot of great things you can make that aren't imitations of meat-products. Try websites like www.vegweb.com. PETA has some great recipes on their site - I think they're all vegan (no animal products at all, so no cheese, eggs, milk, etc). If you check your library, you'll find lots of great cookbooks too - my favorites are How it All Vegan by Sarah Kramer and Tanya Barnard and Vegan Planet by Robin Robertson. No, I'm not vegan, but the recipes are so good, you don't miss the other stuff!

Hope that helps!
Hey, Avoid anything with meat, as well as gelatin or rennet (check cheese ingredients carefully)

If you replace the meat in your diet with things like tofu, nuts and beans then you should ensure you're not missing out on protein. Also make sure you eat a decent amount of vegetables for nutrients such as iron and fibre.

Have a portion of protein at each meal as well as one of complex carbs, vegetables and good fats.

You study, you learn, you quit eating meat. Simple as that.
first, don't eat pork or beef, then don't eat seafood and chicken. do all slowly, takes time.
